I've checked my odometer against a GPS, and my xB's odometer is right on. The speedometer is off by 3%, like almost every other 1G xB running stock tires and wheels.

I'm averaging 51 mpg on my current tank. 150 miles on the current tank before it reached the 3/4 mark on the fuel gauge.

At this point, I can tell you that spark plugs made no difference in my car. Mayber, it's a little smoother at idle....maybe.

I am willing to chalk the mpgs up to leadfootitis or the 17 inch rims....neither of which I am willing to change.

as several others have posted before its all in the driving style. i used to go crazy about my mileage(avg 24mpg, with 50/50 st/hwy) so i changed about every relevant part imaginable and only ended up 3mpg up! eventually i gave into my poor driving habits and started going slower than i usually drive, and accelerateing slower, and bam! 32mpg. its all in the style! if you cant stand driving like that then just pay the extra 30bux a month in gas it will cost ya if its worth it to you.

Hi RS1.0 #580

Thanks for the followup on the Irriduim spark plugs. I was wondering if there were plugs that would improve mpg.

I avg 32 mpg. I'm usually driving 60mph and pass a lot. Because I have fairly good cell phone coverage and because my ins provides on-the-road flat tire repair service I removed my spare tire and jack (not carrying around 40 lbs for approx ten years will save quite a lot). I only have the cross bars on the roof rack when I need them. Without lugging around the spare it also gives me a bit more room for grocery packages in the wheel well.

I used to avg 33 mpg but I've since opted for safety rather than mpg so now I'm keeping my tires inflated at the 29 recommended psi (for better traction when braking—lots of rain here in Hawaii). Before I had them at 35 psi.

That's awesome. You are certainly the leader.

I haven't gotten below 35mpg since winter and my best tank ever was 46.8mpg two years ago. I only drove certain roads that yield higher mpg.

Thanks you guys :] very insightful advice. I try driving slow, but everyone in San Jose drives like madmen and I gotta admit, cramming a schedule of school then work doesn't allow for me to drive speed limit sometimes. but I've noticed at this half tank I had 180 miles. It's getting better I hope!!! xB love ya'll!

Im new to the forum and my 2006 xb is going through its 1st tank of gas with me driving it and im not quite sure what MPG im going to get. I had a toyota camry and the gas gauge was tricky it would go down kind of fast and then hover at around 1/4 tank and it would just sit there till 350 miles were on the tank. Im hopeing my Xb will do this im sitting at a 1/4 tank now and i just turned 200 miles on the tank on the way to work.
