I have a 4 oz glass Vanilla bottle and I just dump it in the filler spout right into the tank - shake the bottle a little and then pump the gas in. I got a gallon from Sally's Beauty Salon and already used a gallon from Ace Hardware.

The only tank I've ever had in the low 30 mpg range was when I had to drive 70 mph for 70 miles to meet some people. That destroyed my mileage. Otherwise, I count on getting mid-40 mpg on every tank.

If I drive 70mph I still get in the high 30's . . . Heck I get high 30's going up hill at 60mph. You're doing really good there Darrell, some of the highest mileage I have seen.

Well I just filled up my tank and I am still on the F mark and have yet to hit the first bar and I am at 51 miles all city driving.

So i am guessing that is around 33-34mpg. Will Tell you guys what my halfway mark will be.

Sounds like you filled it up well. Don't be surprised by how fast the full to 3/4 goes by . . . it just does.

try this....nothing to lose

disconnect your battery cables and leave the car sit for 30 mins.. let the ECU reset..

then, when you put them back on and drive the car, drive it granny style....

i have an rs1 o4 with 65xxx miles (injen short ram intake) and I average 28mpg mainly city with some highway mixed in...

So I just filled it back up after driving 120 miles...

I only needed 2.8 gallons. 50% city 50% highway and that equate to 42.8 mpg with my custom intake.

I reset the ECU, put in some STP (black bottle), filled up with Exxon (10%ethenol) and been driving granny style for a while to get the AFR's all leveled out.

I just re-filled it with some chevron and will do another MPG estimate soon.

I just filled till it clicked btw...some stations click later than others (BP clicks real late, same with Shell)..Depends on the pump I guess.

Yea I have realized that the 3/4 goes by real quick...kinda makes me worry sometimes lol. 3/4 and 2/5 go by REAL fast...

hmm put in a bottle of STP and reset the ECU...unplug negative cable from battery, press the brakes till they lock.

Connect cable, and ECU will be reset.

Let it idle for 5 minutes then drive it granny style for 10 minutes straight.

1st, 15mph
2nd, 25mph
3rd, 35mph
4th, 45mph
5gear 55mph

Those are top speeds in each gear while up shifting (accelerating). But if you are at the top speeds of each gear and that is the Speed limit of the road then you may up shift for greater fuel efficiency as long as the engine dosnt bog (up hill etc...)

Best mpg in 3rd gear is 32, 4th gear 43, 5th gear 54

2nd gear shoudn't be used to go 25mph use 3rd instead to go a steady 25-32mph

This will get you the best gas mileage.
I do not have a scan gauge but I found i get the best MPG while doing all of this. The manual even says the up shifting gears...

Good luck going back to 25 from 19..i 25 really your best?...maybe your vvti might be stuck open..are you throwing a light? Have you changed your oil or are you overdue? Have you been driving hard? Country roads?

jw,

Regis

mine is actually an automatic. 24 mpg isn't my best, its my average (22-25 is normal). but now i'm maxing out at 19 mpg. i have got like 30 doing all freeway driving in the past. It's not throwing a light, i reset the ecu every now and then and its a temporary fix. oil is still good. i just drive in the heavy traffic of orange county, ca and feel the car has to be pushed hard to keep up with traffic. pretty often from a dead stop i suddenly lose a ton of power from 1800 rpm to 2300 rpm upon acceleration and then from there on up to 4000 rpm it feels like its not being fed fuel properly, almost like the fuel is pulsing. and the car has to be brought up to about 4000 rpm just to barely keep up with traffic. this started a month or so ago. i'm thinking maf sensor, o2 sensor or fuel filter is my problem. any suggestions?

Man that should be the power band - start with the spark plugs - mine were not even installed tight from the factory #1 was a little bit looser coming out than the rest... Check your tail pipe too - if it is not clean then something it wrong for sure, And it helps the engine to downshift once in a while.

what do you mean if tail pipe is not clean?

My exhaust tip has black around it?

Wipe the inside of the tail pipe - you should still have a clean finger - if you have soot then you are burning oil or too much gas (a/f ratio off). You should not smell any gas outside the car. Gas fumes are considered polution and the gas tank should be sealed to prevent that. The only time you should smell anything is some ethanol burning stink when your cat is cold but after it warms up you should smell nothing if it is running properly. I get warm moist air out my tail pipe without any trace of odor at all.
I do run 3 oz per ten gallons of Acetone in the gas and have Synlube in the engine and tranny which doesn't really burn like conventional oils. If you are smelling gasoline outside the car then get under teh back end and check for leaks and any signs of dripping on the hoses and fittings. COuld be you and leaking gasoline instead of burning it.

yeah, the inside of my tailpipe is definitely not suitable to eat out of, its pretty disgusting. Are you talking about exhaust leaks in the pipe or gasoline leaks? i totally wouldn't mind bringing in the car to a shop but i just don't have the money right now.

yea i wipped the inside of my tail pipe with a rag and it was BLACK and kinda thick O_o!

I have no idea what it could be...my oil level never goes down!

I'm pretty sure its our STUPID PCV system...

Ohh and recently I have realized that I have some water in my exhaust...not dripping out but it is condensation at points...could it be the STP bottles?

I dont think that ANYONE's exhaust is clean with a rag...

Ohh and my car has no smell after about 5 minutes of warm up...warm moist air for me too

YUP that's unburnt hydrocarbons along with whatever else they put in the fuel that they call gasoline today. Just wiped mine with a clean white paper towel and just a trace of soot after moving my car last night running it for a few minutes. I get more dirt off a few square inches of floor in the hallway than what I get in my tailpipe. Gasoline leaks - yeah you should not smell any outside the car - that's why the gas cap has to click when you close it - Scion has an electric vacuum pump that depressurizes the gas tank about 5 hours after the engine is turned off too . . . pumps the fumes through the charcoal filter to burn them when you start up the next time. Water in the exhaust is normal - the product of burning hydrocarbons - hydrogen + oxygen and carbon atoms burn and form water H2O and carbon dioxide CO2 and carbon monoxide CO then the cat converts the monoxides to dioxides with the extra O2 that is in the exhaust i.e. the O2 Sensor makes sure you have some unused oxygen in the exhaust gases to do that.
Get the exhaust system hot enough and the water boils off. I even rev the engine then turn off the key and keep the throttle open to pump some air through to remove the moist air from the pipes before it shuts down in the winter. Seems to start better when I do that too.

Gasoline leaks in the back of the car under the trunk or anywhere the fuel lines go. If you smell some in the exhaust then you have a bad plug that is misfiring and letting unburnt gasoline out the tail pipe.
