my exhaust suddenly sounds ricey and i don't like it.
yesterday i was coming back from big bear and it was really windy. something broke off of someone's car and i couldn't swerve because i was already going 90. anyways, i remember that there were three pieces, one hit my windshield (surprised it's still in one piece) another flew off to the side, and the last piece went under the car. i only felt it hit under my seat, but it may have hit other things to.
so last night and this morning i start noticing this crappy fart can sound coming from my car. i have a DC exhaust, i don't think it would be that. and i have had the exhaust for over 5,000 miles. is it possible that i have an exhaust leak now? or would that be a different sound? maybe the clamp holding the axle-back on was knocked loose? maybe the resonator was hit? (i know someone that took out their resonator and their car sounds ricey now.) or does the DC exhaust end up sounding ricey after a while?

I would take a good close look underneith to make sure something didn't get knocked loose or broken. I would look from the front all the way to the back. My box came with the DC as part of the package, and the sound hasn't changed yet. I have 38k miles on it.
wagonbldr, ok just wanted to make sure the exhaust note wouldn't change, i love the sound it makes, but i hate that rice (that isn't caused by the DC)
.
jwaggz, i'm assuming i would jack up the front tire so that i don't roll forward right? in that case i could just leave my car in neutral (manual tranny) and give it some gas?
thanks guys...i'll try this before taking it in and paying 100 bucks for some "technician" to visually inspect my car at toyota

good call....ok here's some new info.
i tightened the clamp and it still makes the noise.
also, the noise doesn't happen if my car is in neutral, it only happens when i am accelerating. the noise only occurs between 0 and 3100 rpm too.

holy shnikies! i didn't even think of the heat shield. hmmm, yeah i'm jacking the car up after work to check everything. and if i still can't find it, i'm taking it to a muffler shop. hell, they'd probably find the problem faster than toyota
I had to take my heat shield off and hit it with a hammer ....because it was making a rattle sound. The muffler vibrates about 1/5-1/6th inch when your engine is on so if its a tad closer to the shield ....then that might be your problem.
sounds like there might be a hole somewheres... examine your tailpipe carefully. have someone rev while you walk around to try and pinpoint its position. also try to liten for it from the engine bay too.
if you still cant find it, definitely take it to a good muffler shop – they will find it faster and fix it for cheaper

Hasn't this been a common problem with the RS2 xB? The weld cracking on the tip? You might see if you can get some warranty or partial credit on a new one. Unless you're just going to touch up the welds yourself.
Yes, I know that you don't have an RS2 xB and the exhaust didn't come with your car, but you may get a little help because of the apparent/possible manufacturing defect.
i already contacted AEM, they are going to try and repair it, if they can't they'll send me a new one. as long as it was less than a year ago, it's under warranty...they're pretty nice guys too.
