Need help on convincing my dad to let me get CAI
Alright, i been wanting to get injen CAI for awhile now, and my dad has been skeptical because of the warranty issue
I explain everything about the Magnuson-Moss act, and whatever, and he gets the whole sha-bang.
Anywho, he thinks that the CAI can cause problems for a ton of things under the hood and that when those things break its the CAI's fault
So my question is, how many problems can CAI cause, and how many things is it related to that it can void the warranty on those parts.

If u really want one get a bypass for it and no problems will ever occur.... the only way ur car will ever hydrolock is if u try to go through a lake.... if not go with a short ram intake.... still looks and sounds cool without the possible headache....
I had a TRD cold air intake for my xB and ended up breaking a connecting rod and putting a hole in the block. The dealer of course blamed the intake and it was not covered under warranty. This is despite it being made by TRD, purchased from a dealer, having an air bypass valve and the roads being dry the day it broke. The tech claimed water had collected in the pipe previously and just happened to get sucked up that day, complete BS.
Save yourself the trouble and get a short ram with an injen hydroshield. The short rams also make their power earlier in the RPM band, you won't feel the cold air until 4,000 RPM.
here's the full story of being screwed over by the dealer:

The only things that could happen is water or big chunks of dust, rocks, and so on getting in. Water wont get in as long as it's not sucking air right under the bumper or anywhere open where water gets and you wont get any debris in as long as you have a good filter. Why doesn't he like the idea? I hope your not going to say it wasn't built for increased air... look at the turbos and supercharged tCs with stock motors.
no problems ever, if you just throw your stock intake back on, and never mention it.. outside of warranty..
it will not cause any problems
unless you take it diving.. then get a bypass valve..

First off, tell him gas mileage is better. I have the TRD with the bypass valve. I called the warrenty company about doing modifications and they said NO TRD part will void the warrenty. Now after doing research I found that ANY TRD part from a dealer is not a true TRD. the TRD CIA is made by AEM. The TRD exhuast is made by Borla. and so on. I would suggest the TRD/AEM CIA only because of the bypass. A short ram will give you only a few more horse, 2-3.
What could the intake really mess up, all its doing is allowing the moter to breathe.

I am looking into getting a CAI for my xa. What would be the most cost effective/safest and most productive way to go? IT sounds like some are recommending the short air or the TRD/AEM one.
Also, what are the sound improvements??

I just got one a couple months back. I did a lot of research, my main concern was water getting in. Look at my profile to see mine. It's not bad, but you really don't get much gain like most people say. Oh, and it was also the cheapest one I found, not counting the cheap ebay ones. http://www.autoanything.com/ is where I got it.
hey man i had the same problem with my dad.... just be chill and dont rush him... also explain that the a CAI in not going to mess up your engine... so it wont void your warranty, also just explain this is want people our age to.... im assuming your a teen if your livin with your dad.
So have you got one yet? Oh ya, like ^ said above, if you just got the car new, you have at least a 3 year warranty on it, so you don't have to worry about anything, if water gets in and you blow your motor, just put the stock intake back in then take it to Toyota and tell them to fix it. They would never know you did anything to it.

For warranty problems just throw the stock intake back on before taking it in.
Is it me or has anyone else noticed the influx on tC owners in our forum lately?
