Default OBDII won't talk

My '06 xB has been running a little rough lately so hooked up my code reader to see what the trouble could be. The OBDII failed to link with it repeatedly. I know the reader works because it linked right up with my toyota pick up truck after it failed to link with the xB.

After a couple of attempts it somehow left the traction control and skid control functions turned off. That's ok now, don't need them in July or August, but might be nice to have back on come December and January.

Is it possible that using a jumper on the obd connector to manually read out air bag codes left it in some mode that prevents the computer from hearing or answering the code reader? I'm really hoping it's something other than a complete engine computer replacement.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Check your fuses. You might have a blown fuse that's in connection with the OBD connector.

I did find a blown fuse, replacing it helped, sort of. The code reader now talks to the car successfully. No codes stored, which is ok, as replacing the spark plugs cleaned up the idle. Trouble is the traction control and vsc lights are still on. The dtc reset on the code reader didn't help that.
