Default OBX and Perrin radiator hoses

I am looking to add some color in my engine compartment. I like blue so I go searching for blue radiator hoses on Ebay. so I find the OBX hoses, 3 hoses for $40, or the Perrin, 5 hoses for $200.

can someone tell me why the Perrin is so much more? are the 2 extra hoses really worth an extra $160? I must be missing something but if you have experience with either types please let me know.

They give you like 25 more horsepower. Almost as much as a TRD radiator cap and Irridium spark plugs.

Add some 93 octane premium gas and you'll be setting land speed records.

biznox you're getting annoying and sounding more and more like a troll every post you make.

the perrin is a better brand. are the two extra hoses worth 160? no.

are they made better ? yes.

if you have the money get the perrin . if not . anything's better than nothing.

I was also thinking about getting stickers to add to the horsepower. I think the JDM ones give you the most. J/K

can the Perrin be THAT BETTER MADE then the OBX? I didn't see any gold lining or diamond encrusted jewels on the Perrin. And why don't you see any other manufacturers come out with replacement hoses? Maybe nobody cares.

I agree with hotbox. It's not as if the OBX is going to fail under pressure and leak versus the much more expensive Perrin. I think alot of what you're paying for with the Perrin is the name. How much extra quality do you really need in a part like this? You're not running the Paris-Dakar rally here, you're driving to Blockbuster and Safeway.

Sorry but if you get the Perrin you also get all the heater hoses and all three radiator hoses oh and the vacume lines. Also the OBX hoses are only wrapped twice ,the Perrin are wrapped about seven times .

Only the OBX tend to not hold up under pressure and will leak at the ends where the hose clamps are.

Its better to spend the money for the Perrin, than to have a hose blow in the middle of no where and be stuck.

Seems like a lot of money to spend just to add some color under the hood. What other mods do you have planned?

The stock hoses are unlike to even blow. I've never had that happen on any car I've ever owned. You guys act as if you are entering a 24 hours of Le Mans race or something. Let's get real, it's a completely unnecessary cosmetic mod that does nothing for performance (like most of the mods people do here) so why not just get the less expensive stuff (or skip it all together)

I work with hose assemblies all the time at work. The OBX hoses should hold up just fine. Your cooling system is not going to create enough PSI to blow those hoses. It's when your system stops the flow like a stuck thermostat is when you should be worried. Thermal expansion is your enemy. Personally, I'd rather have a radiator hose blow than the radiator itself. The Perrin hoses are a lot stronger, but I don't think it's neccessary to absolutely use on our 1.5L's. I'm about to purchase a set of red OBX hoses whenever I can spare the time to install them.

I agree with hotbox... A subtly "cleaned up" or modified engine bay is nice. The last thing you want to do is call attention to ugly parts by highlighting them. As far as I am concerned, this goes for hoses and wiring alike. Keep it clean, keep it simple. If you really want to get into heavy modification, start relocating and hiding stuff. That is how you build a nice engine bay.
