Default Oil Leak??

Alright is not very often that i get to ask a help my question and im not frantic pulling my hair out about it. But has any one had an oil leak after changing their crank pulley out? I changed mine out on Sun. and today i noticed an oil leak after driving. I didnt notice any oil on the drive way the first two days after i changed it, but today there is oil. The car drives perfect, no funny noises, its just like normal other than the oil leak. So anybody had this happen before or might have a guess at what it is. It is only on the front side of the motor, no where else other than it got sprayed by the belt and came up towards the top of the engine bay. I am taking it to my mechanic tomorrow, so he can asses the problem and if i have to i will take it back to Toyota. So suggestions and help are welcome, thanks in advanced.

Maybe after everything settles you need to re-torque the hardware?

shouldn't be too bad i guess but it also depends on how inclined you are to do it. is the pulley and underdrive or just a lighter stock sized one.

Its a light weight pulley. Inclined well , im a car stereo installer, not a mechanic, but i have done all my own mods. Do you know what needs to be done to change the seal. No matter what the mechanic is going to see it but, please let me know more on changing the seal, thanks.

pretty much cutting it out use a screwdriver with tape on so you don't damage the crankshaft. then use a socket or something and a hammer to tap in the new one. you will obviously have to remove the pulley again too.

Yeah i just read that in the service manual, not horrible but i'll let the mechanic do it, if thats the problem. What about the oil control valve? I read in one section not to pry in between the alternator and the oil control valve, or it could cause damage to the oil control valve. I not sure if that was damged, whether that would case the leak. I cant see the page upclose to see what it is, I used my three trying to look at pics for ideas. So let me know what you think about that and thanks for all your help.

I just checked under mine and I don't notice any oil. I just did my perrin pulley about a week ago. Possibly something was damaged in the installation process. Let us know what caused the oil leak when you find out. Hopefully it's not caused by the aftermarket pulley.

Was the damage caused by the pulley/installation or was it a faulty seal?

Here is how Toyota put it,"the crank cover seal is what is leaking and it wont be covered under warranty cause you have all those pulleys in there". I wanted to say you mean pulley and then smack him through the phone. Here is most likely what happened, when i was installing the pulley, i was trying to unbolt or loosen the bottom 14mm bolt on the alternator. When i put all my weight in to it, the alternator went back towards the engine(the bolt still would not budge), which allowed me to get the pulley and belts off. When i got done installing the belts and pulley, I went to move the alternator back in the position that it was marked at from the factory. I used a pry bar, cause it was that solid on the mount, and i guess i caught the crank case with the pry bar. This is most likely what cuased the leak, so i was not worth my time or breath to fight with them about it, and i'll just pay to have it fixed. They wanted less then my machanic did to fix it. So as a not to anyone who plans on changing their crank pulley out, Do Not and I repeat Do Not, pry or go anywhere near the crank case with any thing or you could end up with the same problem as me. Life is full of lessons to be learned and i have another one to add to my book. I think the pulley was cursed since it took over a month and a half for me to get it from when i originally ordered it. Thanks to Stylis who got it to me pronto after the first person i ordered it from was un able to get me one.

Hmmm. Well here is a suprise after having my car for 4 days (1 day to tell me the problem, 1 day to order the part, 1 day off Sun, and one day to fix it. I still have an oil leak, wow, why am i not surprised. Yippie i get to take it back to the dealership and have them try to fix it again, who knows how long they will have it this time. Sorry to other dealerships im not downing you good ones out there just the one i went to. Do i have a case to have them fix the problem for free since i paid good money to have it fixed in the first place? I'll let you guys know if it gets fixed this time around.

Yeah Yeah O' Wise One I knew that statment was coming. You know i would go to Deland if i still lived over there, but its just to hard to work that out. So hopefully they will get it right this time and im not paying another cent. I wish they would have just listened to me in the first place and checked out the oil control valve, thats were the oil is coming from. But what do i know, since im just a customer. We will see what they find..... Im also getting my extended warranty money back too, since it's not going to do me any good after May.
