What's wrong with it? I mean, it's just a dipstick right? Does a metal one serve an advantage over a plastic one or something?

Right. I alerted the moderators to this and told them to delete the other 3.

I deleted extras.

I have a fear (possibly unfounded) that a few years down the road it may break. Now wouldn't that be a mess. :?

I'm sure it wasn't replaced with the plastic one for cost alone. The color helps the eyes focus on the oil level a little better than the metal counterparts.

That is a good point.

Not for my old eyes. I changed the oil and could only really detect the level of the new oil by touch.

I agree. What advantage could there be to a metal one. It's not as if the usual strip of tin is some kind of expensive status symbol or even a sign of quality. The bright yellow plastic one works just fine for me.

I think it's easier to read the against the yellow. My only reservation is the quality and that's only because I had a bad experience with a yellow plastic handle on the dipstick in my wife's car. The handle was yellow plastic and the blade was metal. One day after owning the car for about 3 years or so I attempted to check the oil and ended up with just a handle in my hand and a disptick stuck in it's shaft. I did manage to get it out by drilling into it and wedging something in the hole to pry it out. The dealer was shocked I retrieved it. He said most people have to replace the entire assemply. Enough ranting. I just hope the plastic is better quality. It is Toyota so I'm sure it is.

The Toyota one is a one piece design too, as I remember and the plastic is pretty pliable. I suspect it will last as long or longer than the rest of the car. I can't really see being too concerned about this.

You can get a black market JDM dipstick made from unobtainium. Only $837. Be the first one on your block.

No, but it makes your ____ bigger. Or is it that it makes you a bigger ____. I'm not that good at translating Japanese.

It must be makes you a bigger ____, because they don't have big ____ in JDM land.
