Default Race Capability

My brothers friend heard about my "goofy" Scion and said hes Toyota MR2 could beat me. So i asked my pops who is kinda proficent on specs and said the MR2 probably would win.The MR2 is stock and i have CAI, Exhaust, Headers, Light 17" rims, perrin pulley and shifter, and ground wire kit.....Do i have a chance? I went to race school when i was young so im confident if i have the speed i can out drive him. If enough people think it can be done im gunna place a wager and go to a local track

are you talking drag, or track?

also what year is the mr2? what does it have? I would think the mr2 would still spank you regardless.

There are quite a few engine options for the MR2... I'm no 4AG expert, but there's the 16 valve (pushes about 130hp), the 20valve (???hp), black top, red top, etc, etc, etc! I have my money on the MR2...

on a track( Laugna Seca ) , and i think its an 04, or 03. Its the smaller engine with a suspension upgrade for the only mod.

so im assuming its the MR2 spider, it would probably still smoke you. the box wont really move without a turbo.

You would need a ton of suspension mods so you can take him on the turns ... if you can pull away on the turns you might stand a chance but on the straigh aways he will smoke you ... Get a good adjustable suspension and some sway bars then maybe you can out turn him but don't look to pull away on the straight away ... its the turns where you will need to win the race!

I place my wager on the MR2. Seen the few stock ones that have swung by my buddies shop and damn, they take off pretty quick. Honestly a heck of a lost quicker than when I test drove the xA...slow. Well, I hope you have enough confidence in your mods and driving to place a bet. Race him when you're below a quarter of a tank. I would wager a tank of gas or something...

why smaller rims? And if my tires were any more low theyd be sitting on the rim ( 205/40ZR17) And i already was planning to gut the back bench and spare tire to lighten it up, and if i found it in time a CF hood to lighten teh front

No it doesn't. MR2's tend to oversteer, especially if he drives the 2nd gen early models.

As I said in my last post, most people who own MR2's don't know how to drive it to it's true potential. If you have more race experience in cornering, there is a chance you may win.

The MR2 can easily exceed the xb's speed on the straights and can easily beat the box's speed through the turns withouth going close to its limits.

The Mr2 wouldn't even have to come close to sliding his tail out unless he was on a pace to lap the box in a short period of time.

I love my box, as I assume you do... but don't confuse it for a sports car jst because it has less body roll than other econo boxes.
