because it will cause a tear in the space time continuum. Haven't you ever watched "back to the future"? lol. if you went any faster you would be stuck in the past. lol. Isn't that the limit on the xb and the reason the new xb has a digital odometer to discourage people from challenging the odo to max it out?

Offhand I don't know of any place in the US where it is legal to go even 83MPH on a public roadway, but your xB should be able to do better than that. I have no idea what the actual, verified top end is for my '05 automatic, I haven't tried to push it to find out, but I do know it will see 95 with no problem... That's fast enough for a box.

Auto or 5-speed?
Will it spin faster than 5k on its way up to 83mph, shifting through the gears?

Yeah, it should go faster than 83... wierd that it stops right there. You said that you bought it for cheap because it won't go faster than that? So you knew that it had a problem when you bought it??

Someone already asked, but does it spin up faster than 5k when shifting through the gears? If not, maybe it's your rev limiter or something that's preventing it from going over that? If it does, maybe it's a computer thing. Sorry, don't know much about the xB engine... but those seem like the two obvious choices.

this may sound funny, but what floor mats do you have? i use ford escape floor mats for the winter and they are a bit long and go under the gas pedal so i really have to mash on the gas to floor it.

The problem is you dont have a big spoiler on there. Or decals. Once you add a few decals around the car you should have some hp gains. The spoiler will help you make the run from 83mph to at least 155mph.

Is your check engine light on / working properly? Does it come on then go off after you start the car? If it doesn't come on at all it may have been tampered with. You can take it to auto zone to have them see if it is throwing a code. Almost sounds like it is in limp mode.

yeah, 83 is way too low. The limiter is set at 125, so you still have a while to go.

(and yes, the box is stable at 125 mph, I would know)

Yeah, need to know if its an auto or manual. I dont know how u managed 125, but I have gotten my to 105.

Also, you have 5mph more untill you run into an space time continuem issue.

In the Dallas/Ft. Worth area the high way(I20 I think) is 75(at least through Arlington it is). In west Texas I think they did away with the speed limits.

The dark parts in Texas are 80. Now, back to the topic, you should be able to get your car up to at least 100 without problems. I would check the floor mats like previously mentioned. It sounds stupid, but very well could be the problem. If that's not it I would go to the dealer and then ask a service tech to take a ride with you and show him/her the problem. Although it might not be a big problem that you can't go faster than 83 MPH, your car still is not meeting up to expectations and that can be frustrating. You paid for it, so you have the right to have everything function properly. If it's not topping out where it's supposed to, then it's not functioning properly. This is where warranties come in to play.

How many rockets did you have strapped to it?....lol

I know it takes quite a bit of flooring to hit 105. And thats the MAX Ive hit.

Yeah, There is NO way you can get a xB up to 125. I've also hit 105 on my xB. The speedometer says 125. That does not mean it can get their though. SRT-4's have a 160 MPH speedometer. You cant get there though. C6 Corvettes have a 200 MPH speedometer. They are goverened lower than that, and without the goverener, it probably wouldn't be able to go that fast.

Funny thing is, when I got my custom gauge face done. I had the numbers stop at 100mph. Figured I wouldnt spend enough time over that speed to matter.
