use a twin loop muffler or a turbo style muffler.

^^ what hotbox06 said, probably the best way to go considering price and what you actually get from an axleback.

Either get a tip for the stock exhaust as mentioned above or take a look at either the Greddy SP2 (110mmx115mm oval tip) or the Tanabe Medalion Touring (100mm round tip). If I am not mistaken the Tanabe is a little bit quieter.

Just beware that regardless of what exhaust you get it will likely get louder over time. The only way this won't happen is if you find someone who builds an exhaust that uses a "chambered" muffler.

I just bought a gently used TRD axleback and I the way it sounds. It's not LOUD AND RICEY like alot of mufflers. I paid $150 for it so I can't complain...

GReddy SP2. Sounds deep and low. You'd love the pitch over 60mph.

Dunno for sure, but my TRD axleback appears to be a chambered muffler. It's only been on for a few hundred miles, but the sound hasn't changed one teensy bit. 90mm tip, fits perfectly centered in the bumper cutout... Not terribly loud, at all- reminds me of the sound of British sportscars of the 60's...

TRD guarantees it to be street legal in all 50 states, under 95 decibels, and I don't think they could do that if it was a packed type muffler. Any muffler that's a straight thru design has to have packing of some sort, otherwise it wouldn't muffle at all...

Tanabe advertises that they use very long fibers in their straight thru mufflers, and that such increases the life of the packing material... dunno if that helps or not, but if I hadn't settled on the TRD then the Tanabe touring medalion would have been next on the list...

I just wanted a little bit of attitude, not a cop magnet, and the TRD delivers beautifully....

Default muffler

Did your DC Sport muffler have the interchangable inserts like on the R.S. 2.0. I use the larger insert around town and on longer trips I put in the quiter insert. About a 2 minute job, unless its hot.

If you're not trying to change the sound, then a different exhaust tip will give the styling you want with no noise penalty at a much lower price than any muffler retrofit.

Google up <scion xb exhaust tip> for a variety of looks and vendors...

yea my buddy Mike has the Espelir JGT500 exhaust on his STi. it is pretty awesome but conversation pretty much doesnt exist while hes driving...
__________
While driving home on the freeway one day..
VRRRRRMMMM.....PSHHH!T.....BOOOM!
Mike: What do you want to eat? (i can barely hear him)
Me: Your Mom.
Mike: McDonalds? ok lets go
~fin~

Dont let this happen to YOU.

Buy an exhaust that operates a reasonable volume.

You ears will like it. You neighbors will like it. Your friends wont say "Your Mom" without you knowing it.

most trd's i've seen are packed mufflers. just not a straight through muffler.

personally i dont like the look of silencers on exhausts..it just screams "restriction"

If you want something that looks "big" but not loud, then get a Concept G..
my buddy mike just ordered a Medalion Concept G to replace his Espelir JGT500... haha hes been spending a lot lately, he still has to pay off his fix it ticket for his espelir...

i found a clip of the concept G on a Box at www.tanabe-usa.com
