To hydrolock the Injen, It would take some serious water depth. You would probably kill the engine first (electrical).

I would figure that some water dropplets get through the filter when it rains, but this probably only adds to the horsepower. Don't know if this effects the MAF sensor.

yeah you should be alright with any of the cold air intakes out there. its only when the filter is fully submerged in water that hydrolock becomes an issue. even if the filter gets wet from rain or splashing- you shouldnt hydrolock.

Is this concensus? In that case I'm gonna go to the Injen CAI. I just saw my xA at the dealer ship today. I get it next Thursday. I told myself I wasnt gonna add anything to it. But looking at it I was mesmerized...said to myself...whoa...blank slate. If I had gotten the red one I woulda ordered a CF hood today, but sadly the silver xA would look goofy with a dark gray hood. I'm gonna drive it around NYC, its a stick, and if it isn't too bad, I will skip the exhaust and headers as I don't want it too loud. Hmmmm what next, tint and an alarm, door sills, front mask, shift ****, short shifter! If the SC would ever drop to 2g's I will get one just for ____z and giggles. Tear up that hyundai accent I saw down my block, lol. Thanks guys.

Just a quick fyi... Since your question was about "short ram" intakes...I believe almost all of the "short ram" air intakes out there take the air from the same place as the stock air box. "or reasonably close" In that case, you should not have any problem with any "short ram" system out there. The CAI "cold air inductinon" version of these products is usually a different story. They are usually longer and try to take "cold air" from a different place in the engine compartment. (usually lower and I believe the AEM for example actually dips down toward the front foglight) These units can be subject to getting water on them in extreme conditions. (or maybe not so extreme if you happen to hit a puddle just right) This is why the Injen (and I believe a few other models) allow you to make the CAI unit in to a short ram unit at any time. There is usually a visible break in the tube that you can take the part of the intake off that actuall makes it "cold air" and just use the short ram part.

So in closing...just go with the "short ram "version and you should have no hydrolock issues unless you are trying to drive it off the dock somewhere

or get the CAI version and during the wet season change it over to the "short ram" version.

Hope that clarifies a bit.

The short ram intake can never hydrolock, it is too high, you might be thinking of the cold air intake, they can hydrolock fairly easily in puddles.

I've never had a problem w/ my INJEN SRI. I've driven thru some nasty downpours and some were so deep, I hydroplaned w/ brand new tires.

Everything's been fine with my Injen SR and I've driven through some very intense downpours.

when i had my 98 eclipse it had a cold air intake that had the filter behind the front bumper about a ft off the ground. Within 3 months of buying the car i hydrolocked it after a big storm we had, went through a puddle that was bigger than it looked. Blew the engine but luckily my insurance paid for the dealer to install a brand new engine. Life lesson for me was to only use the short ram air induction.
