Default Spark Plug Gap and ING Timing

Ok folks started this thread to keep all the info in one spot instead of in 3 different threads.

If anyone has a Scan Guage in their car and wants to help with this research here goes. Already got some info from people here, but the more the better

the info needed from the SG is ING timing @ RPMS , auto/manual, Type of plug and what are they gapped at , octane you uses , ethanol ( if above 10%) temp ( air and coolant ).

This is becoming very interesting and you might all be surprised at what I am finding. Soon as I get enough info I will be passing along what I have found.

You can post the info here or PM it to me ( incase your shy )

Here is some Scangauge related info: http://www.clubxb.com/forums/f2/scan...ead-25357.html
At idle the timing on mine usually shows as 4BTDC. Accelerating is around 19BTDC. The highest advance i've seen is 38BTDC- on high RPM cruise, very light throttle.
Auto trans BTW.

One thing I would like to know is...

Why are people reccomending .044 gapped Iridium plugs and saying to get Denso or NGK Iridiums gapped at .044 when if you go to the Denso website and select 2006 xB Iridium it shows the correct plug as .027?

Is there some advantage to be had with the more aggressive gap?

If you can wait a couple days I will post up what I have found. Your all going to be surprised , real surprised. It will probably upset a bunch of folks , but the info I got is from you all , and a few of the manufacturers , and SMOG Techs that were kind enough to help .

interesting read...
did you use indexing on the plugs?
Also just confirms what I have always said.... I hvae almost 90,000 miles on Denso iridium plugs and the only reason I use them is to get longer change intervals since I drive 25,000 plus miles a year.........
No more hp
No more mpg
Dunno how many times I have stated this
but this interesting about Tomas's gap as I always just used the Denso recommended gaps........

Interesting seems reasonable as the computers can fix way more crap than we give them credit for! They work overtime keeping even the most out of spec cars within guidelines. The one thing that I have seen is that a higher quality like Iridium plug will last longer physically where the low end models will start to round off the electrode sooner.

Test kits could be constructed out of a certain highly versatile and biodegradable corrugated product. Videos would be required.
