Default Which of these 3 would be best?

a good cold air intake, or a good short ram, or a K&N filter for your factory airbox?

which would get you the best mpg, and or performance.

Iwould get the cold air if I were you

What I've found is that they both have their advantages and their disadvantages.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Cold Air Intake:
PROS: Since its farther away from the engine it get colder air wich carries more oxygen thus creating bigger explosions in the engine thus giving more horse power. Makes less noise.

CONS: Since its a longer pipe it takes longer for the air to get to the engine, since its closer to the ground there is a risk of getting water into the engine causing it to stop.

Short Ram Intake:
PROS: Smaller pipe so air responce is faster, almost no chance of water getting into engine.

CONS: Since it is closer to the engine it heats up when the car is at a stop and delivers hot air with less oxygen molecules causing the HP to go down. ExTREMELY noisy.

The cold air intake may have risks but they can be avoided by intaling a bypass valve which is designed to take in large volumes of air with a sudden thrust of the gas pedal and will safely level off and switch to your primary air filter as you coast on the highway. This translates to more power when you need it and less when you don't, and if you pick up water it aloows the water to drop out before reaching the engine.

SR produces better low end HP
CAI produces better high ebd HP

i started out running a drop in K&N, the n switched to the Injen SR. HUGE difference.
the SR does hiss at idle, its not bad but noticable. i get better MPG with the SR then i did with the K&N.
i did alot of thinking and looking befor i got my intake, im sure i made the right choice. don't sking on cheep parts when it come to your nice ride. getting a cheep part will get you what you want for now but in the long run you will have problems that could have been avoided.

I had the Injen CAI and i used it for about a year, then one day at the track i had to remove the Cold Air pipe and convert it into a short ram because i lost the lining in my fender. Now here is the facts on both setups.

The CAI will give you more power at the top end of your engine, it pulls really nice.
The Short Ram, wont produce the same amount of power as the CAI, but you get much more pep in the lower RPM range which helps out when driving through traffic.
The K&N in box replacement will help, but you probably wont feel any difference and the noise level will NOT be changed.

Now my review:
I LOVED my CAI intake because i track race alot and at the track your ALWAYS using your top-end, which is AWESOME, it produces a nice sound and really makes the motor 10 times more efficent. The downside is that if your not in the power band (which is usually after 4K RPM), it can becomes kind of sluggish, but it's definitely an improvement over stock. Now, Ive had the short ram for about 2 weeks and driving around traffic is DA $HIT!! The downside is, thats all its good for because in the high-end it tends to loose its pull and just kind of bogs a little because all your getting is warm air into the engine.

You choose what you need with how you drive, or what you use your car for, thats pretty much whats it's about, dont go spending the money on a CAI if you are a casual driver. If you want to go all out and you really don't care, then buy the CAI. Anything else just let me know.

*watching*

I've been looking for an intake for ages since there aren't any that are Carb legal for 06 xAs. I might just have to go ahead and get one that isn't carb legal which I really don't wanna do.

The K&n comes with that "drycharger" that keeps water out but likely sacrifices HP. It stretches over the filter. It just rained about 4 inches last week and I never had problems with water in the engine.

I started with the K&N replacement filter and noticed a difference from stock. When I switched to the K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake I noticed another difference. Bigger power gain but less MPG.

So it all depends on what you are looking for

Less? I haven't really noticed that. I hope it's not worse.

It's not bad but it's less than stock. Last I checked I'm getting about 27 to 28 MPG with my CAI.
