Default This thing has got to get quicker.

I do a lot of city driving so I'm constantly at stop lights and signs. The Xb seems to take forever to get any type of speed up from a complete stop.

What type of modifications and upgrades can I do to get this thing off the line faster?

This is the exact problem MOST of us have. I'll be buying a header and an intake soon but I heard that a lightweight pulley would help too? Maybe someone else can chime in.

i have an IHE+P setup. peppy definitely. it won't be blowing the doors off of any car making more than 120hp even, but it'll feel like you're going fast.

let's get to reality - this car is an econobox made for urban transportation. it's not meant to burn rubber. it's just something we sacrifice for the cool package.

unless you go forced induction. that's another story.

Hmmm. I find my car more than adequate for in town driving. I have K+N Tsunami Cold Air Intake and a TRD axleback nothing more. My car is a standard shift. Do those complaining of the car being slow all have automatics??. I can fairly easily drive past most other drivers off the line if I want to. I would not call the acceleration high performance but if driven hard it is borderline peppy to me. I generally do not accelerate beyong about 4k in any gear (msotly I shift at about 3400). Forget keeping up with a strong V6 or V8 that puts the hammer down. But I am talking about normal driving not racing. The box is not really designed to race.

A lightweight pulley will help in stop and go. The lessened weight will allow it to spool quicker. However, it doesn't have the inertia that helps it continue to spin on the highway... at least, that's just my understanding if you apply basic physics.

A header provides really nice gains. I highly recommend a 4-2-1 design like the Weapon-R or OBX.

I don't have any problems getting people off the line if I need to. It's not a fast car but it can hold its own when it needs to.

It's not that bad, and I drive an automatic.

Seriously, acceleration is on average with most other cars.

I don't know how you have any problems unless everyone where you live drags at every stop light. The more important question is how much do you want to spend? If you've got around $3,000 you can go with a supercharger. There's always nitrous, depending what kit, it's around $500. Intakes range from about $80 to $300 and headers around $300.

Seriously.

I drive an auto and my xB kicks azz in the city. Never had a problem 0-45 mph.

I do have an Injen SRI, but that's it.

The highway is where the box starts to lag, but taking off from a stop sign in an xB should be no different than any other small car. If everyone is leaving you at the light, they must be flooring it. I say, let 'em go. It's their gas they're burning.

yeah, i've driven my gf's completely stock automatic xA, in just simple city driving, it is usually alrigt...however there was one day when we had to make a left pulling out of a gas station...and i had to wait SOOO long because i knew this thing didn't have the gumption to pull out and get to speed like my tc does...that was the only time i really thought it needed more power.

Do you have a standard tC or auto? I don't know about the auto xA but standards aren't bad at all. I've out raced a stock auto tC with my standard xA, at the time the only power mod I had was the TRD sport muffler. Have you ever noticed the power to weight ratio is pretty close when it comes to the tC and xA?

If you want your car to go fast, sell your economy car & buy a sports car.

Our engine is not made for power or to handle big power.

On the bright side, you can tune your car to corner like a rollerskate

Last weekend, I autocrossed my XA & finished in front of an Exige, based on index.

Obviously, my car has less power, but the nut bedind the wheel was tuned slightly better...

RACING!! Its da $hit!!! These cars aren't fast but as said above you can make one handle VERY nicely, just make sure you choose the correct parts.

If you want something faster, buy a faster car, but if you want to have a faster xB/xA get ready to spend some dough, or be really imaginative. I have a fast xA and to date i haven't raced anyone faster (not even a tC) but ive put alot of money into this thing and its OH SO worth it!!
