Default TRD exhaust pix, sound clips, opinions welcome

Ok, I'm all searched out.

Thinking about a TRD exhaust for my Egg. I've managed to find a few pix of it mounted. But I would really like to hear some sounds clips if anyone has any. All opinions are welcome....concerning the TRD as that's the one I'm most interested in.

One thing I would really like to know, is how much droning there is on the highway. I commute so I have to have some level comfort.

So any 5spd xA/xB owners with TRD exhausts who do a fair amount of highway driving, please give me an HONEST assessment....or a sound clip.

here's the thread i put up a long time ago. check it out.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...+exhaust+video

i still have the TRD. i think it gives like 1 hp gain. exhaust note is a good, mild sound. it gets drony around 3-5 k, so on highways you'll be stuck with the droning noise, but it's very tolerable, though rearseat passengers may complain a bit.

i personally think it's a good, mild tone. good for not getting attention from the cops.

I really like My TRD xB exhaust. Not too loud. Not too quiet. The polished stainless muffler and tip look good.

Thanks for the help. That's just what I was looking for. Don't know how I missed that thread during my search. As you probably already know, our cars in 5spd form turn about 3500rpm @ 70mph, so drone could be an issue. It would be great if someone had a sound clip at highway speeds.

Any other pix, clips or info from others are welcome.

I agree with a slight drone at 3-4K or so...but it is just that a slight drone. If it was a V-8 it would be a burble, which is exactly what you want!! 4 Cylinders drone instead of burble so it is still exactly what I wanted (hmmm wonder if I power the rear wheels with a second engine if I could get a burble!). Really is isn't loud just there. Sound deaden the gate and under the rear storage and spare to minimize it even further, tho it really isn't necessary (for this reason anyway) IMO. ( I sound deadened my whole car to keep the tunes in and the noises out, makes a big nice difference I highly recommend it.. Raamat for the win)

the VAST amount of aftermarket exhausts and mufflers will drone .

you can build a drone free system but it will be quiet , probably not flow as well and be out of the ordinary.

^^^ what you said is a bit true. the TRD has a hint of buzziness, but it's not crazy rice fart can style. if you dont want to go big noise, i recommend the TRD or DC or tanabe concept G's. they're the mild tones.

the TRD on an xB sounds perfect. Alot of Honda kids always ask what type of exhaust it is because theyre sick of the way their cars sound.

i have the trd and love it. my friends all say its sounds great its not overally loud comes with a decibal certificate too. if you live in cali this can be important or any town that has adopted that law. my friends all say the same thing its not so much louder as it is deeper and toned.

Is the trd glass packed or different?

The reason I ask is because I guess the glass packed ones get louder over time

I'm loving the sound of my new Strup V2.0. Sounds deep and meaty for a 4 banger. Almost got the TRD but decided against it.

they had two trd/ srd mufflers , as well as a borla.

glasspacked mufflers will not neccessarily get louder with age , at least not noticeably and not fast. unless of course you get a very , very crappily made/designed muffler.

or unless your running a super hot exhaust like my friend did in his rx-7 nothing holds up for packed muffelers in those execept the stainless steel wool packed ones.

Thanks for all the input.

I would love to hear a sound clip of a 5spd at highway speed and/or a clip of an xA/xB accelerating away.....if someone has one or both of these.

i'm thinking of getting the mmw header after all the consideration i'd like a ceramic coated one but this one should still work. i'm very picky and specific to my application.

heh yeah, the header mod will definitely beef up the sound.
i have the strup header on mine, and you definitely hear a low rumble when you startup and idle and pull. the TRD helps add to it a bit.
