I do have a warranty, I am only at 6500 miles, but I am afraid the intake will ruin my chances of getting any help.

My lights just came on about 4 hrs ago...obviously this is a known problem. I only have 12k miles on mine. Still under warranty thank god! Anyone know if it will hurt it driving it this way?

Once more for the cheap seats: Just because these three lights come on is not an indication of trouble code being discussed in this thread, code P0012. These three come on for a variety of conditions, and until you know the ACTUAL CODE, any postulation about the underlying cause is a waste of everyone's time.

PULL THE CODE, and then ask about the condition.

Brunt, Black_sand, 06_xb: pull the codes, or take it to the dealer.

my xB had this type of issue at some where between 10,00 and 20,000 miles. The lights came on, so i shut her down, and cranked her up, they stayed one, i was 2 hrs from home, drove home, it made it to speed no problems, the dealership cleared the codes, said the gas cap gasket was bad, replaced, a week later same issue, this time it was the gas tank fill neck, replaced and never had a problem since!!!

In my case it came on and it was a "Canister hose" that was loose.
that happened to me. that was the exact problem. one of the hoses was loose.

Default Mine too

My check engine light has gone on and off at random times for the last 3 weeks. My vin DOES fall in the range for that service bulletin. I called service today, they said soonest they could see it was 2 days from now?? Two questions. My performance has not been a problem to date, are all the p0012 codes causing sputter above 3,000 rpms, or are some of yours driving fine, just the lights on and off? I'm wondering because it looks like it will be at least two trips to service (one to check codes, one to fix), and if they won't see me till friday, and then wont fix till the next week, at earliest.....That means I will continue to drive my box with a potential problem?? Second question. Until I saw this P0012 petition, I thought maybe a dirty air cleaner could be causing the lights to come on. Could it?? And, I went to change my air filter, bought a fram, found my front strut bar would make things difficult...so I did a search, and found very little on air filters. What I did find said fram won't quite fit, and that it would be a minor pain to "pry " the box open enough slide a new filter in. Does anybody have experience they could add??

I have read up on this topic alot and looking at the other discussions on this issue it doesn't seem that the P0012 will affect the performance of the car. It DOES however need to be fixed, I'm taking mine in tomorrow morning to get checked out. I'm at 43,000 miles, but this is covered under the 60,000 powertrain warranty. My lights will come on and stay on for a few days, then turn off for two or three more, then back on again. I really don't think it has anything to do with your air filter, I could be wrong, but with the other topics I have read up on I don't think that could cause it.

I hate to keep reviving this one, but I just picked my box up at the dealer this morning. They replaced the VVTi gear yesterday, or that's what they told me. I drive my normal 62 mile commute to work this morning and now it seems that my car has a slight skip when it's idling. Has anyone else noticed something like this when this repair is complete ? Looks like I'm gonna have to take it back.

I live in Ontario and have been to the Toyota dealership three times already. They reset the lights every time but they come back on. These people don't know what to do about my car since there are very few in Canada. I told them to call the U.S. So they called California and said that the cam timing was retarded. They checked it, it was fine, and they reset it, again. I hope the lights don't come on again. On the invoice they gave me, the error code was P0012.
