What's some fairly cheap mods for some horsepower gains?
Now that my interior, exterior mods are done for now, I want to add a little more zip to the box. I'm not looking for anything ridiculous like a supercharger, but something more feasible, and not an insane amount to buy.
Thanks.
Thanks.

i would say new yellow top battery, grounding kit ,copasetor and um intake, cat back system, add a horse to the front that always works..... not much u can do to get big powere othere then turbo or supercharging it.

A grounding kit will get rid of the annoying fluctuating RPMs at idle but don't provide any noticeable hp difference.
A cai will provide a lil more torque, and change the sound of your exhaust slightly, but don't expect too much.
An exhaust may free up a couple of ponies, but you won't notice anything.
With new headers and exhaust, you may feel a slight difference, but once you get used to it, you'll think that all it did was change the sound of your exhaust.
You may want to just put the $$ into other mods...

In all honesty, I'd expect to see ~8-12hp from these mods. A full 2" catback might get you closer to that +12hp range. Will you feel 12hp? Hell yes! You'd probably get a little better mpg, too.

injen short ram 4WHP, DC header 6-8WHP, good catback system 8 whp. from the numbers i have seen atleast, with a good catback system good intake and good header 20 hp to the wheels is definatly possible, so your looking at like 110-115 horse at the wheels with this car, hahahaha booo for the 1nz

I have a 2000 Echo that runs the same motor, I have a open air filter, pulled out the baffle in the airbox, run 91 oct. gas, synthetic tranny oil, and I have run Mobil 1 Zero w-30 for 70,000 miles with no problems. The oil made the engine come alive!
