xB 2006 rough idle, clattering, STRONG gas smell
Since last year my xB has idled very rough at stoplights -- I put it in Neutral and it settles down. Also, when accelerating (easy on the gas, mind you -- it's an automatic and don't like it past 3k rpm) I can hear the lifters chattering. This happens starting from a dead stop or going into passing gear.
To top it off, there's a strong gas smell when idle -- no matter if at start up in the morning, or during/after driving.
I drive like a grandpa's grandpa and baby this car as much as I can. I took it into the dealer and they just laughed and said it's 'normal' for the xB engines to idle like that. They wouldn't even look at what's causing the gas smell or the clattering.
They dropped a tire tool on my windshield and left a 20" crack in it. I was stupid -- signed the release for the car BEFORE I saw it. Can't do anything now --- I haven't been back to Tejas Toyota in Humble, TX since then.
If you take your car in ANYWHERE for any kind of service, DEMAND to see your car before signing anything. Didn't mean to go off on a rant -- I'm just a little stressed about my Box...
