a hackjob rwd v8.

the 2zz or 1zz is the easiest/best oem quality motorswap you will be able to acheive.

supposedly you can hook a 1zz/2zz up to the stock trans if need be .

the 6spd is huge and will require cutting and then boxing a bit of the front subframe.

or you could run the 1zz's 5spd box and it should fit just fine in the engine bay .

and the 6spd from the 2zz and the 5spd from the 1zz are interchangeable.

I am on the mission to put a mildly boosted 2zz motor in my xb, I will be taking a look at a donor GTS in the next day or so.

both the 1ZZ and 2ZZ will fit fine. the size difference between the C59 and the C60 is minimal other then the C60 being about a half inch longer from what i've been told.

the only real modification you would need to do is some sub frame trimming on the right side of the engine bay *in the prospective that you are looking into the engine bay from the front of the vehicle*. other then that and some new engine mounts and brackets, should go in just fine. both the 1ZZ and 2ZZ are heavily supported by aftermarket companies, the main being Monkey Wrench Racing.

I will be doing a rebuild on this motor before it goes into the box.
Low compression pistons, crowley rods and monkey racing bearing sets.
Plus a little work on the head, Valves, Springs, small port and polish, and maybe a cam since the motor is already apart.

I'm looking for somewhere in the realms of 200-250 whp. I don't want to go to crazy with the mods. I just want it really reliable, my cars gets about 30,000 miles a year.

Thanks Winter, this is the info i was kinda looking for before I put the money down for the donor car.

I'm not worried about the engine mounts and brackets. My only open ended question is about the custom half shafts that will need to be made. Any ideas who is doing this type of work. I would like to source this out before I spend all this cash on this project.

you can contact DriveShaftShop.com about that. their exact words to me was "you get that engine and tranny in and send us the project car and we'll get some axels in there.

you can do a temp. attempt at some before hand too and they can work from there which will cut out half the time it'll take them to do the work.

i've looked into a ZZ engine swap for some time before i looked into using a 3SGTE. depending on how much you are willing to spend, you can run around 500+hp as an example of monstrous numbers for the 1ZZ. i suggest not touching the 2ZZ though, LOTS more work into that one in order to do the same because of interfering valves and you don't really feel your power until about 5,000rpm while the 1ZZ is a gradual increase of power all the way through it's range.

i also suggest against using the C60 6 speed idea. although having that 6th gear is great and all, it's only really meant for cruising. unless you are willing to spend the extra few thousand bucks for a Quaife straight cut gear set for it, the C60 isn't strong enough to hold much more power then what it's built for.

Jesus, why is everyone so critical of the V8 swap? I bought the 1NZ that came out of it, and got to see it in person. Understand that when those pictures were taken, the guy was only doing the install as a functional check, it was not the final install. No sense in cutting and painting if it wouldn't run. By the time I got up there in February, the entire front end was torn down for rebuild and finished metalwork. The interior was also stripped and awaiting re-carpeting, etc. He has sheet metal and pipe forming capability in house, as well as a walk-in paint booth with ventalation system. The rear bumper was also being re-worked so that the cutouts for the exhaust line up. he had just gotten in the new plate for the fire-wall in polished steel and was working on the suspension metalwork.

This is not a young guy, late 40's at least, and a hot-rodder. The other vehicle he had recently restored was a '32 pick-up. Good luck on the 2ZZ, there was almost no space between the rails when i dropped the second 1NZ in to mate with the stock trans.

Oh, I also have the spare A/T trans and the short block from my old, damaged 1NZ. I can measure the dimensional data if you need to see if the 2ZZ will mate with the stock xB trans. Do you have the 2ZZ block width? There was literally 1/2" of play between the passenger side edge of the block and the inner rail, and that was with the crank pulley off. The trick is to clear the center hub of the torque convertor, it sticks out past the transmission housing.

Jealousy!!!! that is why. I tip my cap to the guy, that's gonna be a a$$ kicker when finished! I hope he posts up some finished shots when he's all done. I've been waiting to see it.

Well, as for age, it does kind of matter when you're talking about web posting. The guy doesn't really seem to be real web savy, though he has made a few posts on clubxb under snotslingerxb. From talking with him, the Scion community is not his cup of tea so to speak, based on his initial meetings with people and them acting like immature jackarses.

You of course are entitled to your opinion, but I say do not judge the vehicle based on pictures of it in a half finished state. I'm sure you wouldn't go to a show with your speaker box half built, because obviously it would look like crap. Hotbox, I really don't want to start any forum drama, though I would like to continue this conversation to get your critique on the project. Since this is kind of a threadjack, I'll probably just start a new one.

ever stop to think that maybe he's not done yet? that maybe he doesn't want to UNTIL he's finished? at least... that's what i would do. some teaser half way imagens, obviously take others during that time and have a stock pile of the build as is progresses BUT, i probably would only show them when requested other wise, i'd only show the half way teasers and then the finished project.

but really, think about it. he's got to do alot of work for the interior now.

I just say, don't judge a project till it's all done.
