Default 1nz-fe turbo find

What is up everybody? So in my endless searching I found out that in the JDM market that the Vios circa 2004 or so had an optional 1nz-fe turbo factory system. So please indulge my questions.

I obviously am insane for wanting such a small boosted motor, but has anyone heard of this motor? Better yet has anyone tried it out? I ask because after getting creamed in my 2005xB I decided to give a new ( read replacement ) box a boosted powerplant. It is a factory built unit so let's say maybe 140-148hp tops.

Now for the real questions. The intercooler seems to be top mounted. No way I would do that, but would that make it a pump cooled unit or just an air to air system, so it could be relocated to the front down low under the bumper skirt? Most importantly, can the C50 5speed handle the upgrade in power, maybe with performance axles, or just go with what I got? I would add that I am going to swap out the 5th gear set for the C56 Corolla set to bring down the rpm.

I would definitely add an oil cooler and performance radiator for cooling. What else should I be considering to improve on the powerplant?

Transmission won’t have any problems with 148hp. Add an external transmission cooler and use synthetic fluid and you should be fine.

Can even install manual 6-spd.

For intercooler, easiest to get water-to-air unit. Most efficient and much, much easier to route coolant lines to front than design and install charge-pipes for air-to-air. Spearco has many water-to-air intercoolers.

What ultimately blows up many boosted engines is incorrect fuel & ignition maps. Using NA ECU with interceptor massagers just never works as well as standalone programmable ECUs. Good thing in this case is you get factory ECU pre-programmed for exact engine.

Thank you for the info Danno, I was just looking at Spearco intercoolers. Will absolutely being adding a tranny cooler when I pull the trigger. I am wanting a little more street power for my toaster, nothing really wild as my racing days are decades gone now. Also going to add an oil cooler and turbo timer. I found out the hard way about not cooling the turbocharger a few years ago.
