I saw this yesterday... an Aisin AMR500 Supercharger. They're only like $200! Well the refurb, probably, Chinese ones LOL. I was doing some forum searching and from the bit that I've read this could work really well with our motors. Some guys are saying they could put out like 5 or 6psi on 1600cc motors though the unit is designed to for smaller engines.
It sucks I have to get the mega squirt and do all that stuff now cause I'm very interested in this. I found a video of a VW with one on a dyno and it looks and sounds great. I think in the future I'll get one of these and maybe I could try and fit it where the a/c compressor would be... hmm
I think they could be viable, but how reliable are they? If your motor is over 100k you should probably rebuild it before you (at least the conrod bearings) boost it, port it for the most efficiency, other then that don’t get caught running one when pulled over, you have to pull em off for smog, the China chargers I think might not be reliable other then that any Forced induction will make the car less reliable, other than that if you boost ya Scion we all wanna see that!

Lol you should check out my threads in the boosted or engine sections. Anyways days ago I taped together a box roughly the same size as the supercharger and It would fit pretty nicely where the A/C pump is but that is also the downside. I don't think I will switch from the turbo but I think I would of tried this first if I knew these existed at the time

I think you could honestly shove a standard super charger with a built motor, rods , thinner then standard rod bearings, head studs , low compression ratio pistons like 9:1 or so , and relatively low boost 10-20 psi and send it just like turbos the smaller the less air it moves at that pressure and bigger the opposite happens more air at higher pressure and more lag probs
Very cool set up and sound. I am hoping to turbo my 1641 here some day. CB044 heads, engle cam, scat crank and a thing engine case. It has run well for the last 20 years with twin Kadron H40's but needs more oomph.
