is F/I really worth it?
i wanted the ZPI kit but saw how low the pipe hange and had to trash the thought. now i'm thinking of the greddy kit. is it true that the greddy kit doesn't come with the intercooler and that it's another option that you can get? but my main question is "is force induction really worth the money for out boxes? is there other option like building internals or engine swaps. give me your thoughts and ideas please.
i've been thinking of engine swap, anything that will fit? heard that the celica gts motor might fit.

Basically it comes down to how tight you are with your money and what you want to spend for power. Forced induction on our boxes is definitley worth it in my opinion. I have had both turbo and supercharger. Both of which I thought were worth the money.
If you want to build the internals, you can do that too. Its going to cost you just as much to do that as it will to do a forced induction setup.
As for swaps, there is alot of speculation but to the best of my knowledge there hasnt been a successful running one...

There are other concerns regarding FI than just price. Regularly scheduled oil changes, constant monitoring of engine and turbo/blower vitals, tuning, emissions, etc., all are issues that must be considered when deciding on FI. Is it worth it? It all depends on your personal preference.
As for the Greddy turbo kit... No, it does not come with an intercooler, but it is an easy add-on that is available from any Greddy distributor/reseller.

It all comes down to price... It comes down to cost of tuning, cost of extra maintenance..... As for emissions, I have yet to have a problem getting a turbo car through emissions. With a proper tune, the emissions should be fine. As for the monitoring of vitals... Again with a proper tune, you should be fine. I AM NOT SAYING NOTHING COULD GO WRONG... But thats also for an NA motor. Something could go wrong. A vacuum line could blow off or kink... Fuel pressure could drop... wastegate could malfunction... But those are all what ifs..... It all comes down to how much time and money you want to invest...
OK turbo is not really that hard to maintain. Full synthetic every 3000 still and yea get a boost gauge, water temp gauge and oil temp or pressure or A/F ratio you pick id do A/F but only wide-band narrow band A/F gauges are crap. as for the ZPI kit....id stay away from it...as i recall since the turbo sits so far under the car the test car ended up hydro locking it and jacked his shizzy up big time. intercoolers are easy...you can just buy a core and have piping made if you want or you can buy a kit...i think it is worth the money but that is me...all the kits other then ZPI seem very reliable for a DD.....i vote you do it
Okay, someone chime in on sizzlin. Im too tired right now.
As for if f/i being worth it. If you got the time and money, DUH! lol If i wasnt paying tuition i would be f/i. If i find a supercharger cheap enough between now and then i might throw that on. It would be worth it as well.

I said nothing about time and money...every thing takes time and money foxtrot uniform charlie kilo HEAD! do you not think that a good supercharger set up will take time and money?
A turbo is not a very complicated set up. As i recall the S/C kits out there are around the same price as a turbo kit. only diff is that the turbo is much more efficient. they both stress the engine the same. 8psi is 8psi whether it is Turbo or Supercharged.
As for the Hydrolocked ZPI kit...i may not be 100% but i recall reading a thread on one of their test cars that hydrolocked and cost the guy a fortune to fix it. The turbo on that car looks too low for my liking. i think the best kit out there now from what i see and read it the turbo toyota.
^^^ true, the turbotoyotas kit is for sure the best.. i have one its just about ready to go on and everything is top quality..

As for the OP's question... I think its a give or take if it is worth it to F/I these cars.. If you have the time and money to spend on installing and maintaining the car and what ever issues may arise then do it... But after dumping $4k into doing things right and your only pushing 175 to180 whp MAX( if your lucky)... It is kinda of disappointing.. Dont get me wrong it is a vast improvment from stock and way cool to drive.. But you could have spent that $19k ( car and F/I kit) on a car that has 250whp straight out of the box and then improved on that.. I thought for the longest time it was really cool to make a car that was not meant to be fast.... Fast... So if that is what excites, you then do it... I have now found that it's more fun to take a fast car and make it super silly fast..
I am a fan of the ZPI kit for one huge reason, no trimming of the factory crash bar required!!! In my opinion, that is well worth taking a look at the ZPI kit, and no they haven't had any huge problems with the xB kits. I was just up there a few weekends ago talking to them about the xb kits.
