who are some good companies that make internal engine parts for the xb...i have found pistons but nothing else...

i would like to build up all of the internals of the engine before i start cranking up the PSI on a turbo...

thanks,

There are a few companies that make turbo pistons, as you have already stated. But I dont think anybody has rods available yet. I talked to ZPI after I read your thread, they have turbo pistons available, but do not have rods yet. Your best bet if you want new rods right now, is to have them custom made. It is gonna cost you a pretty penny to do so, but if you need them, then im sure it it wont matter.

As for forged rods, dont bother. The factory rods ARE a forged rod already. Its not the rod thats a weak part internally. Its the location of the wrist pin. But the rod itself wont fail. You will lift the head from boost before the rod fails.

Well is there a way to secure this weak link?

Anyone blueprinted yet?

if you are soooo worried about your rods, have them shotpeened or beadblasted. that will strengthen them up.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think it is the actual rod that fails. I think it is the rod bolt. The way I understood it is that the offset design places more stress on the bolt eventually leading to failure under high boost applications. The rods would be fine otherwise.

But if you are going as far as to replace the rod bolts with better fasteners, you might as well order a whole new set of rods. You'll be in there anyway.

Oh, and don't forget the stock rods are forged from the factory. And there are lots of people running around with forced induction that haven't had any internal issues.

The density and quality of metals from 60's to present are quite different
