well, yesterday i cleaned up the trans, emptied the flaky gear oil i had out of it and did a 1 qt flush. bolted up the flywheel and clutch and re-assembled the engine/transmission. then i started thinking about engine mounts.. there are no aftermarket inserts that i know of for the xA/B/yaris/echo so off i go to google.com and came up with this solution:
http://importnut.net/motormount.htm

needless to say i couldn't find any gloves so i'm now picking window weld off my fingers lmfao. the mounts are curing and will be going back on the car after work today. and hopefully will be dropping her back in as well..

will do. i've heard issues with the urethane cracking and falling out, but i'd imagine with the proper prep (scuff the rubber really good with low grit sand paper or a rasp) you'd get a really good bond between the liquid and the rubber.. think about it, it can't HURT anything to try it ;) just try and get a fresh tube as it does have a relatively short shelf life..

I'm pretty sure someone with a TC, did something similar. All I know is he had good results.

so i finally got off my lazy ___ tonight and built my uppipe. as you can see it's only tacked together.. i haven't eaten yet today so i'm a little shaky so i'm leaving the welding for tomorrow.

i didn't take any "in between" pictures because i figure y'all can ascertain what i'm doing lol

ok, uppipe starts as a few tube wedges and two plates, one for the mani, one for the turbo

and magically turns into an uppipe!

orientation points turbo up and forward (to clear brakes, etc).. i'm positive i'll be modifying my tray area (where the vents and wipers go) to make this fit, but that's the name of the game.. i didn't want the turbo under the car, and i didn't want it close to the brake lines, so here we are..

here's how the TD04 sits in the car

stock forrester downpipe, as you can see it will need to be cut/modified to clear everything... part of tomorrow's work

k now i go to bed!

edit: oh and yes i will be bracing this pipe to the block/head in appropriate locations

SWEET!! Ive never seen anyone go in that direction with the turbo. Im glad to see you actually doing something to this car. If this is what you have so far, i cant wait to see the other ideas you must have floating in your head.

The only thing im not so sure of is:
1.) Does the turbo have enough clearance for the hood?
2.) Will the engine move enough as to where the turbo might hit the hood?
3.) How much of the wiper tray are you going to have to remove?, it look like its going to be alot and you also loose your tower brace (that sucks).

yeah i lose my brace i'm thinking about that right now, what i'm gonna do... the echo guys usually top mount their turbos but they must have more clearance. i will lose about 2 inches deep for the wiper tray and abt 4 inches wide. i may revamp the pipe today before final welding, this was my first try ;)

if the turbo hits the hood i'll bang it out :D
