Default Superchargers

After looking at all the kits I think that I would like to go with a supercharger, maybe a greddy. But what I am wanting to know is the pros and cons of a supercharger. I am concerned about the longevity of the engine and the car overall. If I was to get a supercharger whether it be greddy or blitz, would it be safe on my car? Would it affect the transmission? I also want to know if it is necessary to have a intercooler for superchargers. any information would be great. Thanks.

Well boosting an engine that is not meant to be boosted will cut down on the longevity of an engine... no matter if it is super charged or turboed.. boost is boost. The supercharger might actually put more wear and tear on the motor becuse it draws its power of the engine vs. the turbo that takes it of the exhaust gases. I know there a few people that have been running SCers for years on the xB's with out problems. But the SCers dont crank out a ton of boost like a turbo may. I think the only real problem I have seen is the xB that had a Blitz SCer that also ran Nitrous and liked to race the 1/4 mile, blew his motor from all of the abuse it took. The SCer will effect the transmission because you will be putting more TQ and HP to it. You also wont need an intercooler for a SCer.

What year is your car and what transmission do you have?

Yeah, Im not looking to race the xb or push it to its limit. if something serious went wrong then I would be in the doghouse with my parents. So I assumed that since the supercharger was putting off less psi even though it is powered by the engine it would be safer for my car. I feel for confident about it now that you've told me that you know people with supercharged xb that have had them for years. I also was wanting to know what aftermarket parts I can keep with a supercharger I have i/h/e and a pulley.

Unfotuantely when you mod..in what ever capacity it may be problems can arise.. So I wont tell you that the SCer wont or will do damage to your engine.. Nobody truly knows what will happen.. As for aftermarket parts.. You can keep the exhaust and header.. Do you have a short ram air intake or cold air.. I think you can use either with the setup.. But Greddy shows a shortram with there setup.. What pulley do you have ? A lightend one or an underdrive.. If it is a lightened one you will be fine.. Not sure if you would want to use an underdrive with the SCer.

I'll agree with what ProshopXB is telling you but he did leave something out and he can correct me if I'm wrong. You say you don't plan on racing or whatever terms are out there for getting on you car but once you feel the power of the BOOST Bandit and you will feel the power diffrence it's gonna feel good and you're not going to be able to help yourself, It's nature LOL good luck with your mod, I can't wait until mine is done

I didn't say that I wasn't going to drive fast, believe me I drive fast enough as it is.haha. I just meant that I wasn't going to take it out and street race or take it to a track or anything, but if my friends want to do a little race i'm up for it. I know problems can come up but if things are done correctly they can be prevented. and to Proshop I have a cold air intake and an agency power lightened pulley.

Also, I know that the car will or should throw a CEL because it runs too rich to compensate for the extra air, but is there a way to remove the CEL? perhaps a tune or something. Sorry for the questions I have limited knowledge about SC/TC I've learned what I know from the internet for the most part.

I honestly havent heard of any SCer's that have thrown CEL's.. only the turboed xB's. So you may have no worries with that.

I thought that if you aren't throwing a CEL with a SC installed then you are not running the right fuel/air ratio.

Hard to say on a SCer.. I have never owned one, best thing to do is to install a AEM wideband so you can see what AFR's you are running and tune accordingly if possible. Another thing to rember is that most of the SCer's are running like 4 psi of boost and the turbo kits are running 8psi. So alot more fuel is required with more psi, so you dont run lean, this is why the AFR's are hitting the low 11's and 10's on the turbo kits and throwing CEL's.

I looked at the PE's I don't really like that it is not a 100% bolt-on. I think greddy is my best choice.

ProshopXB said this in another forum and I agree with it.

"Well i personaly like the Greddy because it is a true bolt on, and comes with the e-manage for the computer. The PE is nice but you need to run fuel pressure regulator and bigger fuel pump. Not 100% bolt on as far as im concerened. But thats my opinion, good luck on whatever you choose."
