$350 Double DIN deck from XO Vision
I was at my distributor this weekend and saw this double DIN deck I couldn't pass up. He sells it for $350 and it's the XO1730 from XO Vision http://www.xovision.com/in_dash_monitors.htm
I figured for $350 it wouldn't be all that great. But turns out it plays DiVX, MP3s, has a built in TV tuner, backup camera input and a 6.5" touchscreen. Only other thing I would want is bluetooth and an SD card reader. This unit does not do IPOD control from what I gather, but it does have AUX input. Well I put it in tonight... ever buy one of those $25 DVD players at Fry's? They work great but they are a little goofy and the instructions are terrible.
Well, turns out this thing DOES have an SD card reader on the side of the screen when you eject it. There's a sticker there that indicates a reader is there. The instructions do not, nor does the box. The antenna comes with a phono plug to plug into the deck but there are 2 other black wires which they do not tell you need power and ground. The orange wire is not for illumination as EIA wire codes would lead you to believe but for the reverse sensor for the camera (my fault for not reading the manual). The amp turn on lead is gray.
Ok, so I am nestled in a canyon near Malibu and I cannot pickup any TV stations. I am not mounting that antenna until I get more into the LA area to see what the best position is. I plan to mount it behind the rearview mirror as my rear window is tinted and that could affect reception. As of now it sits on my dash hooked up.
The card reader works, I just browsed some 7 megapixel images off a 2 GB sd card and it works, but it's slow maybe because the images are large.
I played some DiVX movies off of a DVD I burned. It seems to handle the folder structure just fine, the explorer interface is actually kind of nice. Tricky getting the movies to play as it's some un-rememberable key of hitting enter or play or something like that, I'll get used to it. Movies played fine. I had some MPEG karaoke videos I played and the audio seems to trail behind the video just so slightly. The only useful hard buttons are the volume up and down. Not sure why they chose to make a hard button for the video tilt when they should have made them seek buttons instead. Most of the useful functions are touch screen and it's much better to use the remote control.
Another drawback is that the deck picks up motor noise from the CD mechanism. This is audible when sitting with the engine off, not sure if it's as noticeable when driving. Other than that, it's a neat little toy for $350. I think you can get it for near that price on eBay right now as well.
For comparison, I have a Kenwood DDX7015 in my NSX and that unit is dated by comparison. The Kenwood has no problems with electrical noise but the file explorer interface isn't quite as nice. Screen quality on the XO Vision is a little better I think. Now here are some pictures of the deck installed. Keep in mind I don't have my dash trim snapped in yet because the antenna sits on the dash.

I saw it on eBay from SonicElectronix for $310 + 29.99 shipping, tax in CA. They are out of stock on these units however.

I was in Hollywood the other day and let the TV tuner scan and picked up probably close to 20 stations. Some came in very clear and this is with the antenna basically stuck on the dash, not up high.
Right now the controls are bothering me a bit, I really want skip as hard buttons. I find myself fussing with the remote control while driving and that is not a good thing. There is a definite delay when playing MPEG 2 files from DVD. Not sure if it will have that problem through SD. It seems to catch up after a few minutes.
FYI, I used the contact form to inquire about the antenna power and ground wires. They said it should not make a difference if it's hooked up. I don't know for sure so I just wired it to the switched 12v (red wire on the radio) and grounded it. There is a little red LED that lights up on the antenna when its powered.
Ok, some of you wanted to see the antenna installed. It's barely visible. I ran the wire behind the dash and up the A-Pillar on the passenger side. You want mount the antenna first, up high behind the rear view and the two ears along the very top. Then you can tuck the wire into the headliner carefully. Then you can run it down the A-pillar. Take a stiff wire to run it through to the back of the stereo and fish the wire from the antenna through. All of the excess wire can be tucked into the dash next to the A-pillar.
A few other observations about the stereo. It seems the lagging picture only happens on MPEG-1 from VCD. After a few minutes it catches up to match with the audio. What's pretty cool about this deck, and this is totally an Asian thing, is that you can easily switch mono left/right which is good for the karaoke videos. With dual channel DivX files I can't do this however. Playing MPEG-1 karaoke videos with 4 cute Thai girls singing in the car was priceless. That was a 10+ for entertainment value, the deck paid for itself that night.
I converted those files over to DivX and now they are fine. I also put them onto a 2 GB SD card and it plays great. With DivX files, the deck remembers where it left off. With MPEG-1 it starts over again. I also tried to insert a 4 GB SDHC card and it didn't like it. I want to find a 4 GB SD card to see if it can handle it. Someday SD's going to be so cheap that I'm just gonna have a bunch of cards in the ashtray.

so i am confused... i thought the xb has a 1.5 din slot but i keep seeing talk of the double (2) din radios? i was going to mount a 7 in. monitor in the dash and put a dvd radio deck in the cubby hole but this look alot better? do you have to modify anything to mount this deck? and where do you get the little edging pieces to fill in the gaps on the sides?

I like it!
