Default 06 xA stereo problem

so my xa is about a month old, and ive noticed that the sound quality of my stereo is suffering. im not sure how long this has been going on, a couple weeks at least, but the sound gets scratchy, kinda poppy almost. i dunno if its my deck or the speakers, or even the tweeters? does anyone know what im talking about?

do you think this could be covered by my warranty? also, i primarily use my ipod for music in my xa, but the scratches arent present anytime except through my scion stereo.

also, i havent pushed the stereo to any extraordinary sound levels, so im sure i havent blown any speakers, unless they were previously damaged during test drives or something.

Sounds to me like you have to troubleshoot the problem a little more.
Answer these specific questions.........

1 go to car......do not start car!!!!!!!!!!!!!DO NOT START THE CAR....no vroom!
2 out the key in ignition, put it on acc.
3 but put RADIO on........any scratches?
4 put cd on.......any scratches?
5 put ipod on........any scratches?

GREAT! now you can start the car.
6 start car.....
7 put radio on.........scratches?
8 cd scratches?
9 ipod scratches?

ok........youve just told me everything I need to know as far as the battery, alternator, the ipod, cd, antenna, and quite a few other things are concerned..........
now for round two...........tell me the answers to all of these questions, and I can probably help you track down the problem.

ok, just to clarify, its not like a static hiss or scratch, its like when certain notes are hit, ya know?

also, i checked engine on and off, cd, ipod, radio. its present during all mediums.

Maybe a blown speaker? Check to make sure your stereo settings are all at 0...

also try fade/balance to see if the 'scratch' is coming out of any particular speaker. Can't say for sure but it sounds like you might be hearing the voice coil scratching due to a blown speaker...not sure if audio is covered under warranty but I wouldn't hold my breath...they'll probably accuse you of abuse.

THANK GOODNESS! I thought I was crazy...but I hear the same thing (I think so, anyway). I believe it's the tweeters...only problem is it's only certain frequencies that cause the issue, so it has been hard to replicate for techs. I put some folded cloth in the tweeter grill, and it did help deaden it a little.
