Default '06 Xb Steering wheel audio controls...Not fair!!

Hey guys
I tried checkin on the posts and didnt see anything. I bought an 2006 XB last September with no steering wheel audio controls and now I see that the 2006 models coming out do have them. It doesnt seem fair. How can they do that? Can I go to the dealer and ask for an upgrade? Thanks for your help.

The steering wheel audio controls came out on the xB in mid year 06. The initial 06s did not have them. It's no trick, and you didn't get ripped off. Stinks, though, but no one was pulling one over on you.

Is that legal? I just doesnt seem fair that it is suppose to be the exact same car and they change it in the middle of the year. still doesnt seem right to me.

It happens all the time. Mid-year model changes are nothing new.

There may have been a slight price difference in the two, but I don't know.

There's nothing illegal about it because it's not like they told you that you were getting steering wheel mounted audio controls then gave you something different.

The controls are found on 2006.5 xB. They also increased the price on them by $150.

Actually, your not missing out on much. I also have an '06 but without the steering controls. Last week, I had to rent a new xB with the audion controls. I was not impressed at all I didn't use them much but when I did I actually ended up looking at the steering wheel. Not a good thing while driving.

I found out about the steering wheel controls just in time and waited 1.5months to get mine.

As far as complaining about looking down at steering wheel controls is ridiculous. If you take a few minutes to get aquainted with the few buttons on the steering wheel, you should never have to look down. And the whole point of steering wheel controls is that you don't take your eyes off the road and hands off of the wheel to change the radio station or volume. It's just plain safer.

Whoa! Whoa! Calm down man. I just rented the car for only a day and I didn't like the steering controls. That's just an opinion, you don't need to get your panties in a bunch!

I'm sure after a while I wouldn't look at the steering wheel, of course. But, for the little bit of time that I had it I didn't think it was that great a thing to miss out on.

At first I was also ____ed but now I'm completely over it.

I like the center dash configuration on our 06s much better then the 06.5.

I have them in mine, I switched out my radio, now they are useless buttons. I know I can get the PAC adapter, but I don't want to use that Infared setup, seems cheesy.

I'd love to have the steering wheel controls. I have an early 06 too...

What else is different on the dash? Anyone have pics?

I wonder if they'd give me a deal on the install of one of the newer steering wheels....

jared_IRL, sorry bro but there is no way to install a new wheel and keep the steering mounted controls. Apparently, from what I have read on posts on this site, the wiring is different. For those of you who would like to keep the same functionality with aftermarket HU, do a search in the ice forum. I'm sure I have read that there is an adapter for this. I believe someone started a thread about this resolution.
