Default 2005 xB stereo

Is it just me, or do the new '05 xB's have a weeker stock stereo system then the '04's. Because my old 2004 BSP xB had a sick stock stereo, but my new '05 SY xB has such a week system, the bass, when it is on 5, is way week. Tell me if this has happened to u?

My guess is it's set to the default setting, which is a bit different on the 05. The default SSP setting is "tC" on the 05 stereo. Hold down the SSP button for a few seconds and you can choose which vehicle. The general agreement is "xA" sounds the best.

Also toggle through the SSP button to "feel" or "hear." It may be in "neutral."

Any reason why the "tC" setting sounds so lousy?

I'm not too technical, but I believe it has to do with the sound imaging. It all depends on speaker placement, angle, enclosure, etc.

I happen to like the 'xB' setting, and also 'feel' but that's just me.

I noticed in my xA, that it works best on 'xA'. And I have it on 'feel' in there as well.

(my ¢.02 on it)

I put an aftermarket deck in as soon as I could because the stock stereo in my 05 is quite possibly the worst stock system I've ever heard. Yes, I did play around with all the SSP settings, bass/treble, and balance. My wife even thought it was lousy, and that's saying something because she never notices stuff like that. The sound was just flat... no range, no imaging, no depth. I was planning on replacing it anyways, but man, I can't believe it was so blah. The stereo and cruise control are the only complaints we have with the car, and the stereo was easily corrected. Toyota should definitely go back to the drawing board with it.

I played with the three settings last night and I have to agree that my box sounds much better on the xA setting than the xB.....The tC setting sucks big time....

I read this and i was like, "the stock sound system sucks!?!?!?!?!?!"

My stock system is pretty bumpin in my opinion to be stock.

I was unaware of this vehicle seclection feature and i just went out o my RS2 to check it out, and, haha, it had already been set on xA from the dealer!!!

Guess they knew what they were doing

Yes, i agree, the tC settings are........are...........are just sad!

I don't know if I would go this far, but I thought the stock system was decent till I replaced it with the head unit from my system in my old car. The sound quality difference is a mazing. I didn't think that the the stock speakers could producs such good sound. I was very wrong. Though, I never did know about the sound settings individual for each car. I wonder how it would sound properly adjusted.

I know this dude, John, who has a very tricked out xA. And yet, he has the stock speakers in there...

I just changed the rear speakers in mine, so I could get more highs in the back...and was amazed at the size and look of the stock speakers. They do put out some sound, for being so cheap.

Dammit! If I'd have read this thread two weeks ago, I wouldn't have ripped out the stock stereo and stuffed my car full of Pioneer, Infinity, Bazooka and Sony components.

Wait... yes, I would have.

i had the same prob with my RS 2.0 it sounds much weaker than my old bop xB. i put the settings the same and it still is weak. took it to the dealer & they told me that they had the same probs with some other decks & said Pioneer might have tinkered with the decks.
