I BOUGHT A HEAD UNIT FOR AN 08 XB WITH IPOD CAPABILITY. IT CAME WITH THE IPOD WIRE. HOWEVER, WHAT WIRING DO I NEED FROM THE BACK OF THE HU TO THE CONSOLE WHERE THE IPOD CONNECTOR PLUGS IN? ANY SUGGESTIONS?

 

HELP ME PEOPLE. I COUNTING ON THE FORUM TO HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT.

Second, what harness is in the car now? Can you take a picture?

 

the harness is consealed in some dark grey foam wrapped around your main wire harness...you plug that in the back of the HU...

you are going to have to go to the dealership and get a connector got the center console...if you pull the center console off there will be a spare harness down there but it is supposed to connect to the adapter that fits in the console itself...and your ipod cable plugs into the adapter...

pretty simple actually...except for getting the dealer to order the right part or understand what your talking about...

Are you sure the 04's were prewired for ipod even though the head unit was not capable.

 

the '04's aren't prewired..

you're pretty much SOL unless you wanna spend ALOT of money for that other wiring the car is missing.

 

Search for Scion – Apple ipod Interface cable - SC12235 on ebay.

It goes from the back of the '08 headunit right into the ipod. It is a complete replacement for the toyota wiring. The cable is 6' so you can put it in the oven or the glove box with ease

 

jdl1681 was right. Thanks man you rock... I bought a new 08 radio for $100.00 on Ebay. Just bought the Interface for $70.00. Now I have a first class ipod interface for about the same as Usa/spec adapters with a far superior setup. This forum rocks. Long live the 1st Generation

 

sounds like you got one of the base '08 model radios. The premium model is very sweet it is pretty much an aftermarket unit in OEM form. Comes with 3 preouts for amps and still allows you to keep the stock steering wheel controls for the '06+ models. but for $170 you can't complain i ended paying $285 for my head unit and wire shipped.

 

I would have liked the nicer HU but my 04 doesn't have steering wheel controls and I'm not willing to give up the space for the sub so I couldn't justify it..
