This is nothing... They had woofers the size of a CRX's trunk... They ripped out the back seats and the woofer was as big as that...

Forgot exactly how big it was, but I'm pretty sure it was AudioBahn that made it...

Edit:

Here we go...

http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNAWT34

I'm not even sure if this was the BIGGEST one they made either cause like I said, the woofer took up the WHOLE trunk of the CRX... For those that look at just the outside of the CRX, let me tell you the trunk is HUGE...

yeah.....but the shipping weight on the audiobahn is only like 70 lbs. it says on there.....that MTX is 320lbs!!!!!!! who's gonna lift that into a van or SUV??? If i had the money...and the right vehicle....I'd have one.....Just cause....I GUARANTEE it'd be louder than the audiobahn 34" or the clarion 32".....those two are mainly for show....don't have the greatest output for the size....

I believe Audiobahn was the first woofer to go that big ... They had the 34" woofer out like 3 years ago ... I remeber I was still in high school ...

Actually it was the Clarion.....but both the clarion and audiobahn 32" and 34" respectively suck.....they're show woofers.....the clarion can only handle like 500 RMS watts... kinda shady if u ask me.....the audiobahn can handle like 5000 RMS watts...but still.....for 5000 watts....you'd better be hitting SOME KIND of record....other than the category of Sloppiest/Muddiest/Worst sounding woofer......

im not sure the specs of the other 2 woofers but the MTX is almost 2feet long. it weighs 230 pounds. but the article says it was running at a constant 5hz tone. so its got performance on its side. plus it can be made competition ready by switching the cones. i dunno but i think MTX is a little bit more commited to this than just making a big woofer to show off with. 6.5in voice coils?! shiat

the only thing i can see as the downfall....its sheer size and weight. since its so long how could you build a box with the airspace needed (im assuming it nees at least 5-20) and still make it look good. oh...and what will these boxes be made of? 3 in thick MDF? 30 coats this of fiberglass? unless soemone is a master at buildin box and and can make metal not vibrate i dont see how anything could hold it

Didn't the "sensurround" movie audio systems have sub-sub woofers that big? Maybe you could find a theatre with some old ones laying around!

I'd rather get a mass of the Kicker 10K watt woofers... Or stroker mouse woofers...

It's a waste of wattage to hit a woofer that huge... No one in the universe can hear 5 hz anyways... Most can't even hear 20 hz...

You'll need a suspension upgrade along with your new toy if you ever wanted to use one...

A 320 lbs woofer although functional is also just for show... It is impractical in every way... SPL was built upon quanity and not quality... Who cares if 5 hz sounded like 5 hz? It just gotta be loud...

Anyone getting that woofer for SQ has got to be an idiot...

And the sound is:

( )

You can't hear it, it's that far out of range. What a waste of money and time...

Sheesh. Loud is beautiful. If it's clean.

i remember seeing one of those 30+"ers at a car toys in dallas once. the thing goes so low old people and babies weren't allowed near it because they said it might refibulate your heart beat or something.

once upon a time clarion had a 36" woofer... the power handling wasn't high enough to move the woofer fast enough to sound good... it looked cool though... Last i remember they sold the design to sizzler... jk

What good is a sub with 88.9db sensitivity anyways?

Though 5hz is pretty cool. Sure, you can't hear it, but
you can feel it!

I know a guy who built a horn sub woofer out of a 12" driver
and the curvature of his basement. It was like a 40 foot or
something along those lines. It could hit 12Hz easy, and
that could be felt as well as heard. It was like a tide coming
in and out of the house it was so strong. The dude cracked
his basement with the sub and eventually had to tear it
down.

Cool stuff sound reproduction is if you understand the
physics of it.

im suprised it can only handle max of 10k rms hell ive got a couple of onix 18"s that can be burped at 16k rms and they only weigh 70lbs. Also it can only move 2" linear one way ha ha ha hell RE just came out with a sub that moves like 5" and can handle a burp of proly 10k jeez that sub does suck I guess you can buy it and have it for show.

Actually much bigger... there was a driver my friend still has a few of them(he does pro-audio). I believe they were called Orca and the were ungodly big but did not handles much power and were mechanical like some of the Cerwin Vegas
