8" in rear stock location???
Hey- I haven't replaced the rear speakers in my xb yet, and have an extra channel to spare. Has anyone tried fitting 8" subs in stock locations by hatch? I was thinking about using re-8's because they have a shallow mounting depth (about 4") and don't really need a whole lot of airspace (about .25-.3 I think). I'm fine with doing a little cutting, but am unsure about factory speaker depth.
I already have an re-10 under the pass seat and am not looking for anything that will stick out and preserve as much space as possible. I may be stuck with using 5.25 or 6.5, but am unsure about options.
Thanks!

From what I can tell I don't think an 8 will fit there without modifying the plastic panel too.
I do have to ask which RE model did you get for your sub and how does it sound under your seat? I have two SE10's coming in for mine and I'm really looking forward to getting the boxes made and hooked up and put under the seats. Dave at RE told me that I needed 1000 watts to push them. He said they should sound good but if the XB was his, he would put one SX 12 in the back with about 1500 watts behind it and beat his brains out.

Yeah, after thinking about it, and eventually looking closely, an 8" will not fit. It seems like there would be only about 4.5-5" depth at most. I'll probably just fit a 6.5 in there and be happy.
I am using the cheapy re-10 (base model) and giving it 300w rms. I mainly chose it b/c of the cost/mounting depth/company rep. I think it sounds good considering this is the first box I have ever made.
You may have a problem mounting the SE-10's as I barely squeezed my box under the seat and it isn't getting all of the airspace it needs. I may be wrong, but I think the se-10's need more airspace and may have a deeper mounting depth (the re-10 is only 4 7/8 deep.) FYI, my box is 7.5" tall, 14" wide, 16" deep and I can't slide the seat back. I used 5/8mdf instead of 3/4, and a good helping of polyfill to use as much airspace as possible. IMO, you may want to make a box that cuts off 1/2" in height and width. But again, this is my first box, so I am no expert at fitment.
Good luck!

Cancel that- Just looked at the reaudio website, and looks like the se-10 (and other 10" lines) actually use less airspace than the re-10. I think I should have done more research and bought the se-10 instead of the base model.
you should be in great shape as long as the mounting depth for the se-10 is about the same or less than the re-10.
