I did my own take on this project last night after months of procrastination and I'm very pleased with the results. Lights are bright as all get out and install is clean and functional.

Big thanks to the original poster and all the other guys on this site who have helped me become a quasi-functional amature electrician. I really appreciate the help.

Keep 'em comin'.

Beginning to get this going for my car. Cleared out the center plastic in 2 of the handles. A lot more of a pain than I was anticipating, but getting the hang of it. Will be ordering the leds and stuff soon from Oznium. Anyone know where I can order a mini add a circuit / fuse? Ive looked all over at hardware stores and no luck. Thinking I may just have to run an in-line fuse directly from the battery.

add a circuits can be found at your local automotive store instead of the hardware store.
Around here there's O'riley's, Autozone, and some other ones.

Yea thanks, I tried autozone no luck. But found an Advanced Auto (never even seen the store before, but drove past it 1000 times lol) and they had one for $7.00. Now to order from Oznium, wish they did PayPal though.

they will refer you to www.paypalsucks.com

I can understand why they dont. Its just easier for them to take credit card I think.

I have a Paypal merchant account, and I've been screwed once, almost twice.
I'm extra careful now.

I just did this mod (with red LEDs, pics forthcoming) and am having a power issue.

Right behind the oven/switchpanel area I found an unused connector that looked to be hooked to the accessory circuit, so I used that. Turns out it turns *off* with the headlights (which confused the hell out of me for a while as I thought my wiring had come loose). Does anyone have a suggestion of the best place to tap off for this mod? I don't have the factory LEDs. I'm looking for a circuit that will not turn off with the headligths like the one I had did.

Get an "add-a-circuit" to the fuse box under the dash on the left.

There are a couple of options. I added mine to a circuit that was always hot even with the key turned off.

Nice! Thanks! Guess I need to hit the auto parts store on the way home for one of those.

OK, so let me get this straight: all I have to do to add a new circuit to my fuse block for LED projects is to put a fuse in one of those empty slots, buy a clip from an auto parts store, and put it on the back of the block?

Its kind of hard to understand what you mean because of the terms you are using...
"block", "clip"??

Get the "add-a-circuit". When you plug it in to one of those slots circled, you get the positive + power from the fuse box that you need to power your LED circuit.
Get a Fuse with the number 7.5 or even 10 on it to put into the back of the "add-a-circuit". This will keep you from burning wires if there happens to be a short.
You are also going to need to ground your circuit.
You can ground pretty much anywhere there is some bare metal.

There is a tech article in the tech section on how to do this.

Does this help?

Why should we jury-rig a new circuit to a fuse block when we know there are unused circuits? This doesn't make any sense to me. What are those circuits for? Why can't we just throw a fuse in that location and tap into that unused circuit?

cuz its easier that way.
otherwise you have to figure out which circuit it is behind the fuse box. not going to be fun

I understand that it's easier, but that's not always the best reason to do something.

There are many ways to do this. Another option is to tap into a positive wire either coming from a wiring harness or behind the fuse box. You can also run a circuit directly to your positive terminal on your battery under the hood. That would involve piercing one of the grommets in the firewall, and running a wire through the engine bay to the battery. Very labor intensive and can turn ugly.
You pick.
I'm just trying to help.

Custom wiring isn't "rigging" anything. You would be surprised at what dealerships do.
You can do it however you want. Just read up on it and inform yourself first and you wont screw anything up...

If you want to go around looking for the hard way to do things... have fun.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as rude, it just seems like using an empty circuit would provide a cleaner install.
