Default Aftermarket keyless entry systems, any installs out there?

I've really become addicted to my wife's keyless entry system on her New Beetle and wanted the factory version for my XA, but it's way too expensive. I keep seeing ads in my local PennySaver for stereo places who install alarms with keyless entry features (for cars with power locks, like ours), for crazy prices like 59.00! Has anyone tried one of these aftermarket systems, self installed or otherwise?

I'd really appreciate some input.

Thanks,

David -

I did. I went straight from the dealership the day I bought it, to an aftermarket stereo shop. I had a basic remote keyless system installed for $140 total. I had them set it so that when I hit the button to unlock the car, the parking lights flash and the interior dome light comes on for a little bit. Same thing happens when I lock it. I'm very happy with it.

I got it done within the first month. I went to Best Buy and bought the cheapest thing...Audiovox. It was only 80.00 including installation. For a hundred more you can a remote starter too (wish i did that option).

Default AltaMere Keyless Install

I had to have the keyless, too. However, I didn't want the Scion Security upgrade for $500. Instead, I went to AltaMere and had the windows tinted and a keyless install done for $220 total. The good thing about their work is its guarantee and the fact that they are a national company. If I move and have problems, I can go to the local dealer for correction. No complaints so far.

I sell a keyless entry for you Xa owners, its a DIY, seven wires to hook up and two panels to remove, it honks the horn, flashes the light, on unlock turns on the dome light, I sell it 62.00 including shipping. It has two four button remotes, wire specific instuctions, installation hardare, and pre-wired harness. I don't have picture rightnow but the remotes are similar to the As635 on my web page. This the same system that install at the dealerships at a much higher price.I also havearemote start keyless entry available.

Sounds great scionspecialistvegas. What's the warranty on that? And, you say it comes with wiring specific instructions, do you mean for the XA? Just want to be perfectly clear on this. Do you also offer one with an alarm? How much? Do you take Paypal, or how can I order?

Thanks again,

David -

i don't know.....but i wouldn't trust best buy to do so much as clean the windows of my car.....I'm sure some are OK but I wouldn't risk it......go to a car audio shop that has trained installers....

Adding keyless entry in an xa is fairly simple. if you are local i can help you out. audiovox has a pretty good keyless entry system. They're alarms are something different. any brand such as dei, viper, clifford, etc can always be trusted.

BEST BUY

i was a former best buy installer. trained and certified. as for the bay area, i can vouch for the san carlos and the colma store as i know all the installers there and i actually worked with most of them.

As for Best Buy as like any car audio store, you have to make sure you get the right installer, one that is famillier with your car or one that is very expierenced. In Best Buy, one indicator of a trained installer is the patches on both arms. one is mecp and the other is a best buy certified tech patch. even if you see this, make sure they have been installing for while because some may be book smart but not expierenced.

As for a lot of mom and pops store, just go by word of mouth. never go by price unless you know they have expierence installers.

David, Yes I have a kit for the Xa, It is the as805 on my webpage, and yes the instruction are specific for the Xa, with this alarm you also light up your under car neon, via the remote with an optional relay kit. I sell the kit for 185.00 including prewiring and installation hardware, this is a remote start alarm with a two way pager.

I also offer a alarm with keyless entry that has 2 code hopping remotes, flashing lights, siren, two stage impact sensor, starter bypass relay, a full featured alarm for 75.00, prewired with hardware, and instructions.

Shipping runs 15.00 for the AS805 and 10.00 for the AS 40. I do accept paypal.

I got a Viper Responder from my audio sponsor for less than $300. It's got everything. Keyless entry, alarm, 2-way pager, remote start, yada yada yada. I couldn't imagine the car with out one.

Plus, it will work for when I shave my door handles
