Default Alarm installers post here

I would like to get a thread started to discuss alarm installs in the Xb. Have any of you installed an alarm on your own yet that can post a how to. Even if it's in text form with no pics it would extremely helpful.

Yeah I would definitly PM scionspecialtiesvegas for the DIY alarm...it will save a lot of time especially if you don't have experience installing alarms.

Hey guys, thanks for the props, the xb is not that hard. if fact it like most of the toyota family, install friendly. feel free to pm me on alarm or audio-video questions. Ican probably help. I don't claim to know it all, so we can learn together. Bill

<<< installs alarms. I would not reccomend giving out information on our cars. 90 percent of people are honest, 10 percent are not... many cars can be broken into once this type of information has been obtained. Please speak to local install shops for this type of information.

What do you mean? The wire colors for the scion? You can find that on scionlife's tech page. It doesn't really matter if someone know what colors are which...If someone was to steal a car more than likely they know what they're doing and if they really wanted to steal a car they would jump at a car that not really protected. An alarm these days are more of a convinience than a deterent(granted they still are a lil) If an alarm is triggered how many people would go outside and look? seriously?

It really depends on who is installing it may it be a big company, a small mom n pop shop or yourself. I'm an installer too...and when I do an alarm install i think of ways to hide all my wires(wrapped with tape or wire loom), brain and starter kill(tucked in way up the dash either its screwed in or zipped tied) and get 2 sources of 12v, Ign, Ground. And lastly I want the installer who's taking out my alarm install(car getting sold or traded in and wants to keep the alarm) to come at me to kick my ___ because it was a pain to take it out!

just my 2 dollars,
Hubert

Haven't done one in a while, will be working on mine this weekend though.

I can say this, don't mount the brain under the drivers side of the dash. If you do, at least blend it in with everything else under there. This is the first place bad guys look for it.

Another thing I would recommend would be a pain generator (smaller type siren, very high piched) installed under the dash facing the drivers footwell. This makes it rather un-fun to sit under there looking for wires to cut.

Also, a back up battery is a decent idea, not to expensive.

The best thing you can do is make it as hard as possible to shut off the alarm. It's the first thing someone breaking into the car tries to do.

Not really to sure if I want to take pics of where my wiring and my alarm is exactly located.

but I posted this awhile back in this tread. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...ht=hubert+fuse

1. Most of the wires you can find either infront/on the top or behind your fuse panel. From your 12V/Ignition/Door Trigger/Parking Light ETC. Makes for a cleaner install.

2. Use a DMM (Digital Multimeter)and not a testlight.

3. There's a good spot above(all the way up the AC vent) the Driver's kick panel to put your alarm.

I agree...blend it in with everything else or make it a pain in the ___ to take off that alarm even for you once it's mounted.

I would definitly recomended one of these nothings more annoying than a Mini Piezo Siren (about 120db) which you can pick up for $6-$18 depending on where you look. Of course there's also eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

or you can get a siren with a built-in back up battery(which is still goes off even if the wire has been cut from the alarm) retails for $75 but ebay once again saves you $$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Hope this helps,

hey folks,
I'm not an installer..but I was wondering if anyone else is having the "Driver Lock" problem? If I lock my doors with the driver side switch, then the alarm is activated...when the alarm is deactivated, it doesn't unlock the doors. But if I did the same with the passenger side switch, it works fine. My lojack installer said it's a Toyota problem... *shrug* Anyone?

Thanks

bringing back up from the grave...

I could be wrong but i think that installer needs to send a double pulse for unlock from the drivers side door lock wires, find the "child lock" wire that needs to be grounded at the same time as the locks, or catch the negative pulse wires from the passenger switch
