Another Cathode install! Red Front, Under Dash, on xB
Another Cathode install:
What sets mine apart - Took an hour of time, and $14 (Yes $14! for both!).
This "kit" is actually a case mod for a computer which runs off of 12v. The casemod was designed to plug into a computer power supply, I just cut the connector off and spliced it into the cig lighter. btw cold cathode is the same as a flourescent light, or neon, but generally referred to as the thin ones.. its like calling neon underglows.. CCFL is cold cathod flourescent light.. Just a useless brain dump... back to the install.
I often read on these forums from people worried about "overloading" their cig lighter. Guys, the cig is rated at 15 amps.. thats a lot.. Unless you have an xbox running off of it, your not going to overload the thing.. and if you do.. its just a 10 cent fuse. Cathodes use 5 milliamps at 700 volts, which is about 3.5 watts, which equates to about 0.25 amps at 14 volts. Im sure my numbers arent exact, but you get the idea.

Parts - Notice the blue thing.. thats the thing that takes the 12/14 volts to 700+v.. its not in any of the other pictures, I just tucked it under the dash.

Switch from Lowes.. this ones actually a little big so i had to modify it a little. Lowes sells one that has no light that fits better.

So many wires... My cig lighter runs a little blue light, 2 cathodes (now), my gps system, the controller for my neon, and a few relays.

I love heat shrink tubing!

Under the dash, I just mounted the cathodes using some double-stick mounting squares you can find at vons for a buck. The driver side cathode looks like it was made to go there..

Theres even a little notch that I put the cathode end in that holds it tight.

Install Note: While the install looks very clean, I would secure them in at least one spot with a zip tie. I know I've lost a few cathodes from time to time.
$5.79 for 12" dual-CCFL Logisys kits at SVC:

SVC also sells this PC sensor panel for $7.99, looks like it'd fit neatly into the oven slot:
