Default Anybody have a DVD/Nav/Cd in their tC?

I'm interested in getting one of those all-in-one screens that play DVDs, Mp3s, Cds, Nav, and so on. Anybody have one in their tC? If so post pics, and if you like it and whether it's worth the money. Also I dont think i need the navigation, is there one that just plays DVDs, Cd, and mp3s?

Please search. "Nav", "GPS", "DVD" all return perfectly usable results.

Hey... i'm in the process of getting one of these... it fits perfect in the stock slots for the tC and it can hide away still! Its a bit pricey, but worth it...

I've looked at both the Kenwood and Eclipse AVN 2454. At first, it may seem that the Eclipse is much more expensive. In reality, because the Kenwood head unit doesn't come with the navigation or surround sound decoders, the Eclipse is a better buy. And, of course, the Eclipse is better quality.

You could also consider a car PC for this stuff, take a look at carmp3.com for what people have set up using tiny PCs that can fit into a single din. There are small systems out now that can boot to a media player in less than 5 seconds, and you can have thousands of songs on the drive instead of a CD changer. A dvd slimline drive can be put in for $40 if you want to watch movies or have more songs on a disc.

For half the price of the Kenwood listed above, you can make a very good system that does a lot more than music, movies, and navigation. But it can require more effort to set up depending on what you do.

Here's a few of the Eclipse AVN2454 I installed. I searched all over the web for information on this unit a found almost nothing, especially details on how the thing fits in the tC.

For anyone interested in a comparison between the Scion stock radio and the AVN2454, check out the following links (large pictures... 56K warning!!)

Also, the front of the AVN sticks out about 3/8" farther then the stock radio. I had to redrill the stock mounting plates to get the unit to set back far enough to get the door to closed, its still a tight fit but the door works fine.

The stock radio wiring plugs right in to the AVN and no mods to the wiring were required. I dont have a factory XM or Sub so that wasn't a factor. I know the AVN does NOT support the factory XM but it might(???) support the Sub.

It would work with the sub because the sub harness plugs into the stereo where the normal speaker wire harness goes, then you plug the speaker harness connector into the connector provided on the sub harness. Works like a pass-through for the car speakers while sending the signals to the sub.

Oh, and Ivben Blown, did you make some filler plates for the sides of the Eclipse? It's narrower than the stock deck so it looks like you'd have some gaps.

Not yet beacuse everthing is so dark around the radio I cant really see the gap. Since the entire display portion swivels down to load a DVD or CD, the filler plate would need to about 3/4" behind the front surface of the radio. I'll eventually put some kind of filler but I have yet to see (or be annoyed by) the gap. I've added a couple of photos that show it installed.

I added more photos but not sure this link will work:

So this Eclipse unit is plug and play with the TC? All the factory harnesses plug right into the new Eclipse?

Yup. The Toyota/Scion factory harness type is mnade by Eclipse/Fujitsu Ten. I'm not sure why the Scions have Pioneer stereos, I'd rather they had Eclipses. (Even the Scion Pioneers use the same harness connections, which are the standard Eclipse connectors.)

The nav is the only feature I dont want, so buying that accomplishes nothing. Basically the only thing I want is a screen that plays DVDs and also CDs and Mp3s

Give nav a try, it won't cost much more, and once you try it, you'll wonder how you lived without it.

Do you have any model numbers for this? I actually don't give a rat's ___ about watching movies on it, but I'd really like to have nav in a stock looking package. Would this replace the stock head unit? Would this be in addition to it? Where would you put it if it was in addition, and if it replaces it, does it have the same inputs and capabilities?
