Default Anyone bought the OBX fatboy sport shift ****?

I've installed it and now I've got the following problem...

the instructions say...
if needed raise the "shift boot collar" until it is flush with the ****

the "shift boot collar" is the skirt that's underneath the ****. the problem is that there is now a rattle, because the factory **** went all the way down to the collar. :-/

anyone have a similar problem? thoughts?

yes, now follow this closely it is hard to describe...

ther is a RING around the shifter arm that holds the collar up...you have to feel for it through the leather! it is a plastic ring that holds the collar up

once you raiSe the shift boot collar up...SLIDE THIS RING UP THE SHAFT OF THE SHIFTER and it will click into the bottom of the collar and hold it up

Pop the shift boot ring from the console and tip upside down.
I did the pop up thing at first but after much use it pops back down and makes the rattle again. So i flip it over again and then took Rubber tape and shoved the plastic ring up tight to the top and wrapped the rubber tape, it also helps absorb noise so now it's tight and right........It's easy, YOU CAN DOooooo IT !!!

i'm not quite sure I follow.

are you suggesting that I take the entire 'skirt' out (the leather fabric part)? and then I can get underneath the entire apparatus and fiddle?

thanks

specialbb, if you're referring to the little holes that are in the ring, then yes, they are visible... but if the ring collar is flush to the shift **** then they are not noticable

No you don't have to take it all the way out. lift the bottom of the shifter boot from the console , turn it inside out , leaving the shift **** in place......then the white plastic ring that keeps slipping down and making the play is exposed....Then secure it with the rubber tape......Use this instead of electrical tape it will hold up better.

I did mine and it's fine now !!!

Maybe I'm reading this wrong...but,if not..how do you take the shift boot out without removing the whole console and then how do you put it back in?

I did this when I was installing LED's. The whole console did come out, but also, the shifter boot is a separate entity. I think this some work, you can pull off the shifter boot (the silver part) without taking out the console.
