Default Anyone know how to fiberglass?

Does any one know how to Fiberglass sub boxes? I want to make a box by-my-self, and just wondering if anyone knows how to do it.. I would like to make some curves in it as well to make it look i guess like a valcano. How do I get that look? I know that you use wood for the box, but how do you get the upword curves. Thanks so much

Hehe.......that would be cool if you had the sub set down inside the opening of the volcano...........then had an orange light inside with it...........and integrated a party fogger........so that when the sub plays..........you see the orange light coming out, and "smoke" being pumped out of the opening. Now THAT would be a show piece. Not something I'd do in my car........but cool nontheless.

DenZinz...

That is some nice work.. but one question....

What would that run to do? Cost-wise....

And after that, if I supply the green, once I get my tC.. could you hook me up with someone available to do an overhaul? Run some numbers, and check back with me.. please...

I'm very interested in a system sorta like this.... and maybe in an xB in time, but the tC comes first...

Fiberglass work is time consuming and messy. Not to mention materials are more expensive then glue, wood, and DJ carpet. Most shops will charge around 5000+ to do a system that consists of fiberglass and paint (paint isnt cheap either). It really depends on the shop too. A shop that will take the time to pay attention to fit and finish (detail work) will charge more than a shop that uses only a jig saw and hope the pieces fit together.

Depending on the look you want, you should expect to pay at least $1000. Lighting, suede, paint, plexi, aluminum, steel, and welding will all come into play on how much more you will pay. I hope this helps.

Default helps

thanks, actually it does help me.. I'm willing to spend almost 2 - 2.5 thou on a customized ICE system... I would love to have someone really put some hard work into it, and I realize that I am not the person for such a job...

My artistic abilities, do not spill into the audio/video area in vehicles.. and like I said, I want something custom.... I guess I'll look around.... but thank you for the information you have given....

most of the cost in a fiberglass enclosure is labor. it is takes a lot of it to make a nice clean system. DenZinz has some really nice photos with detail. you could always try to tackle the job youreslf if you are so inclined.

here is another place to look at some photos.

Sam,

Thanks for the comment....

But nothing beats the works of chris yato, steve brown and mike. the alpine civic and mini cooper is sick with a lot of attention to details. They've always specialized in not showing any mounting screws.

Rockford guys did a awesome job on the 350z too. they tackled every aspect of a custom install. Detail, use of material, fabrication, and design. those guys are phenominal.

You also have to check out Metra's steering wheelless beetle...sick i tell ya...

True

But their speaker rings are great for the beginner, and they also have tapes... that is why I suggested it. A one stop shop, kind of like the mall little high on the prices but everything you need under one roof.

Sam...

I dont really know of any place that is cheap. I got the bulk of my resin from a shop that fabricates body kits and local shops. Towards the end of the fabrication i bought some from Boater's World. It's $20 for a gallon and like $20 for 3 yards of fiberglass mat. They have a lot of materials there, throw away brushes, mixing containers, hardner, gel coat, etc., etc., Iven seen a Boaters World in Long Beach at the Marina and Marina Del Rey on Lincoln and Washington.
