Default audio question about a subwoofer....

ok first let me say im new to scion life ive been reading alot of posts for about 2 weeks and i decided its time to register and post.

also im sorry if this was already asked but i cant find it anywhere.

now to the point i have an 05 scion xb and im putting 1 12" sub in the back floor i want to keep the stock little cover thing and just cut a hole into it and drop the sub in.
my question is this if i take out the cooler/compartment under the right cover then the cover wont sit right and im not sure if the sub will drop in with the compartment there so what the heck should i do. anyone who has done this tips would be nice.

Default audio question about a subwoofer.....

You can get a cover for the subwoofer that will fit this area at the rear of the xb. Go to www.audioformz.com and check what they have. I also have seen there stuff on eBay.

a few places on ebay make them for 12's the audioforms overprice pos is only for 10's. get a custom box made. easiest way to get the correct airspace. thjat little cubby area wont cut it . unless u use the shallow pioneer sub

You cant just drop the woofer in, you need to build an enclosure.

so if i take the little compartment out and just cut a whole in the cover and build something to keep it in the air since thats what the compartment does, will that work & do you think it will be enough air space?

i dont have the money right now to buy the fiberglass enclosure and the car isnt just mine and i agreed i wouldnt put a box in the back since it so small so it has to be in the floor.

Well, even if you did just put it in the floor, still consider the usable space. Yes you do have the other side to carry stuff, but say who ever uses the car is, dare I say, ignorant about speakers, and possibly just puts crap on it, unless you put a cage around it. . . Is having some bass worth having to be **** about protecting your sub? But then figure amp mounting. Where would you put that? I say that you think about things like that. See if practicality out weighs you having bass. What ever you do, keep it clean. Dont do some chop job just to get something in there.

I built a custom compartment in the back for a 10" sqaure kicker. I had to raise the height because the speaker was too tall to be able to keep it the same height. Most good speakers will have this problem. I'm assuming that it would have to be even higher for a 12" sub.

i have an old bazooka tube sub that i have mounted to the harnesses on the back of the seat with the amp in that under-floor cubby hole. when i fold the seat forward, i left enough slack in the wires to bring the sub with the seat, so i can have an empty trunk. look into some kind of powered sub (not the greatest, but neither is spenind $300 or whatever on an enclosure before sub+amp) and make it moveable.

there are definitely ways to get around the problem, but i wouldn't recommend trying to glass up that small storage area if you aren't really sure what you're doing. I know there are also underseat enclosures for small (8-10") subs with about .7 ft^3 space. maybe look into that.

for a 12" sub i dont think that the area under that right cover is enough cubic area to get the right sound from your sub. you would be better off building an enclosure

As far as the amp under the passenger seat. Great idea. I have mine there. I actually took the seat out of the car completely and mounted it to the bottom of the seat. After hiding all the wires, you don't even know the amp is under there.
