Default Aux Input - Whistling Noise, 06 tC

I hooked up my XM Skyfi2 using the aux input and there's this annoying whistling noise that parallels the engine (higher rpms, higher whistle).

Anyone have such problems or solutions?

I tried tweaking with the radio's audio level, which helps somewhat, but still the noise is there to an extent.

Thanks!

I had the same problem with my sirius sportster, although I have the 05 and am using the PIE auxilary adapter. The noise is because of a grounding problem. I ended up buying an inline noise filter from pepboys. You run the power supply through it. It took away almost all of the whistling, I can still here it sometimes, but not nearly to the extent it was before I installed the part. I think it cost around $10 at pepboys.

So it is due to the 12V power adapter?

Hmmm...

If you're using one, that's quite possibly it.

I have an AUX adapter for my 05 and use my iPod with it. I never hear any engine whine, but I don't ever have it plugged into the power in my car (batteries only).

ditto. problems occur with you throw power into the mix. its called a ground loop. learn more here http://www.epanorama.net/documents/groundloop/

I'm having the same prob i had a radio, amp, and speakers installed the other day and my speakers whistle parallel to the motor i thought the guy hooked up the grounds wrong so i checked the amp ground is all good and then i checked the head unit ground it was good too i tried grounding out on diff spots as well and i still didnt hear the whistle get any quieter. Would one of those Grounding kits under hood help ? any idea what i should do?

Well, I took away the 1/8" stereo cable and bought a ground loop isolator, so I'm using that to connect to the aux input... (red/white rca).

The sound isn't as rich, but the whistle is gone... Probably as good as a tapedeck still... I don't know... but no whistle is nice. Plus tapedecks you hear it tick sometimes with the spinning wheels.
