Default Average cost of a custom enclosure?*UPDATE*

I'm heading over to a local custom audio shop tomorrow to see about having a custom enclosure made.

I've removed the cargo basket and spare from the back hatch. I plan on having a sealed enclosure built for 2 12's, and something that's FITTED, meaning that it dosen't just look like a box thrown back there. An enclosure built AROUND the hatch, whatever.

I just wanna get an idea of what number/s they'll throw at me, so i won't look so shocked tomorrow.

Thanx.

the type of speakers matter, air space, wiring, etc.
can be as high as $1500.00.
A true custom fiberglass around 3,000.00-6,000.00.
It all depends on the amount of labor.
The cost can get out of site.

Your probably going to spend anywhere from $400- $1200 for something simple without fiberglass. (not including wires and other stuff)

Unless you know someone it can get expensive.

Just do it yourself, it's easy enough to learn.

$1500 is really high for a simple box. I paid $150 for a double faced ported custom box.

I got quoted 600 for my Resonant Engineering 15" HC. I passed on that and went to talk to others. Lowest I got to was 280. Granted I need a box that is 5 cubic feet ported, but still, its ridiculous.

Materials and carpet and doing it myself- right about 70 for everything needed. (the quotes above dont include wires or terminals. thats just wooden, carpeted box).

I questioned about a fiberglass box for it too, but the 1900 price tag scared me away.

Yeah.....building a sealed box is fairly easy..... if you're going ported and don't have a lot of time to do research on parameters and specs of box building, I'd let someone else do it for you.... a good quality custom enclosure should be anywhere from $150-$600 depending on the size, shape, ports, etc... some enclosures cost more than that.....my friend paid $850 for a 3-15" ported box for a durango... ____ SLAMMED though!! haha

talk about highway robbery...with those prices, you're better off investing in a table and a mitre saw and make your own. very simple to do as long as you know your internal volume(specs are different depending on your speakers). you can always manipulate the outside to fit your needs by creating faux panels

ATTENTION!

Just got back from the shop. He quoted me $180 for a custom fit dual sealed 3 cu. ft. enclosure with an amp rack.

Showed him pics and he said he can make me something like this:

With the subs facing outward like this:

In nothing special, only black carpet. My appointment is Wed. @ 10am, will be leaving the car there til' he's done.

That's a pretty fair price for the work he's going to have to do.

It boggles the mind that someone would drop over 800 dollars on a ported box. You could buy every single tool you'd need and all your wood and still have a good chunk left over for that much.

^^^ yeah....but he's(my friend with the durango) a rich bastard.....haha... he had the lifted durango on 33" Mickey Thompsons at the same time he had a 3000gt sittin on axis 19's....all before he was 16....both with TREO/Memphis systems in them...

I'd never drop that much money....but $180 is a good deal...

you pay for TIME.and also, sure it might be alittle more pricy but what happens if you cut your mdf wrong, miss glue or nail it wrong.atleast a shop isnt going to charge you for their mistakes.hopefully they are covered with insurance and have alifetime garranty on their work as well.in this business i have come to the conclusion you get what you pay for,in most casses.
