Hello Everyone,

I got an AVN 5435 last week and I should say it is a nice system. I was wondering if anyone here made it play AVI, MPEG and WMV files. I have some movies in that format and was wondering if there were any "hackers" who made it work. Is there a forum anyone knows which deals with this stuff? Just curious. Thanks.

 

I haven't had mine very while, but I think that the video is only playable from the DVD drive, and the DVD drive only plays DVD's. If you can make a DVD style disc (Nero has awesome software for it) I'm sure you can get it to work. Nero I believe offers format converting too.

 

Are upgrades even possible? Does the system allow upgrades/programs to be installed from a CD? Just wondering. THanks for the info.

 

No. From what I read, the only thing that can get updated is the map Disc itself with new data. Even that you buy from Eclipse. Too bad tho. I wish it took firmware upgrades. It is very bad at decoding mp3's.

 

How does the AVIC-NI compare apart from it being a flip up screen?
