The Bass Machine
After all the performance mods I have done I decided to pick up a Xb for audio. What better way to build the system from hell than with the perfect BOX.
Here is what I am doing:
Kenwood DVD/CD head unit fiber glass'd into the dash
Kenwood NAV
Excelon Amps- 2600 watts
Excelon 6' doors with separate tweeters in glassed into the panels and A pillers
4 Kenwood LZ8's for viewing
8 ( yes I said
12' Earthquake subs custom glassed in the headline with a black suede wrap! NEVER BEEN DONE OR SEEN to my knowledge on ANY vehicle.
The interior is re-done with black suede and leather from the people who make the interior for the G-5 jets.
Racing Hart 3 piece 19' wheels with Nitto's
Wilwood brakes ( but looking for Brembo's.)
TRD Exhaust
TRD Suspension
TRD Spring set
TRD strut bar
NO engine work......as of yet.
So far we are into it about 2 weeks and prject BLACK BOX is coming out great. I will post pics when finished of everything. Since gas is 2+ a gallon I figure why drive the gas hog SUZ when I can have a daily driver show car. I love my box! I have seen like 6 in Dallas and I think more will come as the love grows.

I got an 8 inch sub.. and its killing my eardrums..
what more a 12 inch ones...
Just yesterday... my bro cranked up da subs and man! i had a headache...
its just probably me but how do you guys handle the loud bang with your subs? do you get used to it? or do you just crank it up to show off when friends are around?

talk about overkill... thats way to much bass for me i have two 10s in mine. one would have did the trick... i like to hear the actually song rather then just the bass but thats just me. good luck with that tho. be sure to take pics before during and after i definately wanna see that

I think the biggest issue with roof-mounting the subs is going to be safety. Unless this is a trailer queen, you've got a big risk going there.
The mounting points are going to have to be very secure just to handle day-to-day driving, and the amount of vibration being put out by that many 12" woofers would be enough to rattle them free.
Lastly, if you get hit hard enough, the whole system could come down on top of you. And it'll probably weigh, at least, a few hundred pounds. This could hurt a bit.
I would love to see the design done, but I don't think I'm brave enough to ride in it. :D

the setup that you want will be very hard to do plus a waste of money...you could save your self the time and a lot of headaches and just build a wall with like (2) 15" brahmas in it ported close to the frequency resonance which is really high for the xb its around 60hz from what I have been told
if you do decied to put (8) 12" subs on the roof the amount of reinforcement you'll have to do just to support the weight and not to even meantion to keep the roof from flexing
the only thing (8) 12"s on the ceiling will get you is bragging rights besides that the system would be worthless (IMHO)

First off we have made 6 custom brackets from titanium. Next the speakers are light weight and the box is made out fiber glass which is light.
We do a lot of systems and this is a fist for a Scion. I will be more than happy to send pics to whom ever when it's all done. It is show but it will be ballanced out with all the sound; just will have the ability to crank up Run DMC! LOL!

this is like a guy on the audio site I'm on he's putting a sub wall in his xb with a 50 gallon fish tank in the top of it....rice, rice and more................... what for it................. what for it.................rice
Well, it isn't really Rice. Rice means he's making it look like it's fast, but isn't doing the mods to make it fast.
In this case, I still think you have a safety problem. at 5lbs per sub you are looking at 60lbs, of just subs, floating over your heads.
And, if you're using fiberglass, it isn't going to be all that light. When you use FG to make a box, you end up using plenty of resin to keep it from flexing (flex == loss of sub power). So to keep it stiff, you need a lot. But, for ease of maths sake, lets say you keep it down to 5lbs per sub. You're looking at another 60lbs (at having a total weight of 10lbs per 12" sub is very nice, most people end up with a lot more then that).
60lbs for subs
60lbs for fg
---------
120lbs
So now you have a super model hanging over your head. This is before you add mounting hardware, paint/primer/bondo, wiring, etc. You will, most likely, end up with a 200lbs+ unit floating over your head.
One that vibrates all the time.
Like I said, it'll probably look killer, but it's going to be heavy and it's going to be a safety issue.
In the end, it's your car, your design and you have to drive it, so go for it. I'm just explaining the safety issues I see with it.
