Default Bass Thumps When I Turn Off the Car

This is my problem. I have a crappy scosche amp temporarily powering a Boston G110 sub in my xA. It is running off the stock headunit with a subplug from Nor-Cal Scion. It sounds really good, but when I turn the car off, my sub gives me a low pop sound. I am assuming that when the amp turns off, it is sending a signal to my sub. Is this a common problem or is there something wrong I need to fix. Please let me know what I can do to fix this.

Thanks.

There is (or should be) a remote wire (usually it's blue) that runs from the amp and head unit that should solve your problem.

Change the amp. Most nicer (non-walmart) amps have a function for quieter on-off "pops".

Throw a ground loop isolator in there. And make sure you have the right remote turn on wire. so that the amp turns off with the car. It sounds like it is still retaining voltage and gets a ground signal when the radio turns off threw the RCAs.

How bad is the thump when you turn off the car? I've got mine wired with the remote wire to the power antenna- which is a good place for it, but I get a small *thimp* sound when I turn off my car. The noise mine makes is very small tho, so it doesn't bother me. My amp is super old, but I don't hear the sound alot..because of having a baby daughter, I've got my amp remote wired into a switch in my dash. I turn it off when she's in the car.
The thump shouldn't be very loud. If yours is loud enough to bother you, check your wiring- especially the ground- and if no problems there, think about a different amp.

DOHCtorJT had the right answer. Most all amps make your sub pop when you kill the power. When you buy a new amp, just make sure it has quiet on/off features. Your amp doesn't have this feature, and this is why it pops. Nice job DOHCtorJT.
