Default best place to run wire through firewall

I'm gonna need to be running a 2-4awg wire through the firewall to the trunk soon. Anyone have any suggestions on where's the best spot in the firewall to do this? any advise would help. Thanks

behind the steering wheel, there is a small patch of insulation that is cut in a diamond shape, you can just pull it off to show bare metal. That is there to show you that there is nothing on the other side and it is made to drill a hole through it to run wires. It is below the boot with wires running through it

the stock wiring boot usually has extra nipples that you can cut to run your own wires through.. this is from my experience on other toyota cars... haven't wired up a scion yet.

If you are going all the way to the rear, you might be better off to run the wires underneath the car and come up through the bottom of the car in the rear. Much less hassle with running wires through the interior that way.

Nope. Just zip-tie it securely to structure under the car.

I've done it this way for years for high-power 2-way radio installations in vehicle trunks. My father ran his for 8 years in one car in northern Nevada, then when he bought a new car of the same model we just moved the wiring from the old to the new. He ran another 5 years and the wires still look fine.

Well If you knew anything about mobile electronics you would know that running power wire underneath of a vehicle is the dumbest thing you could do. You should always run it inside the vehicle under trim pannels. I am MECP certified installer and there are strict reasons why not to do this.

Just go through on the drivers side with the rest of the wires. I pushed 4 gauge wire through, you should be able to get pretty much anything through there.

Look.....i just finished my entire installation yesterday...only took about 2 hours.....the entire tC is retainer clips.....and from the looks of it all.....this thing was made to have a stereo put in it aftermarket......to go through the firewall....all i did was drill a 5/8" hole through the little diamond next to the steering column boot on the drivers side firewall and fed it through with some wire loom since the kit didn't have a grommet, then sealed it with some silicone........didn't even have to pull any insulation from the firewall or hardly pull the carpet up......I've been doing installations myself for about 5 years now.......completed around 34 vehicles myself for friends/aquaintances(spelling??)....if you have done these before....it's easy sailing....otherwise....find a friend who you're confident in...i used a 4ga. wire kit from scosche....the wiring harness for 86 or 87 and up toyota from scosche...and the kit for "select 88 and up imports"...... the mounting/filler kit was probably the hardest part.....you have to jimmy with it a little to get it to work....have any q's....PM me....thanx

Ben

I agree.....I've always went inside the car....but there are some hardheaded people who run it under their cars all the time and may not have a problem with that.....all I'm saying is of you are going to take that route....at least give your wire some protection from the elements or some insulation or something.....

Well, enlighten us, O Great MECP certified installer! How will properly-secured wires under the car cause difficulties?

Did you put a fuse or circuit breaker on the battery end of the hot wire? That sharp sheet metal goes through looms and insulation pretty easily, given time and vibration.
