Has anyone else had that funky vineager smell in the a/c when they switch between fresh and recirculated air?
Ive heard you can change the in cabin air filter...when i took my glove box out..and pulled the filter holder out..Guess what i found...No f*cking filter?...Was anyone esle shorted a filter from their dealersip..or am I just that special?
Also do they have better replacements than just the stock ones..and How do i get rid of that freaking smell?

Damn...I was thinking I was special...guess they were so into modding these out at the dealership they forgot the small things. I'll check around for the post on filters..thanks.
I bought 1 from the dealer and wouldn't make my own. The dealers filter is pleated and offers enough flow th not put strain on the blower motor. To much restriction and the blower will fry or start burning fuses. Mine was 20 from the dealer.
well the reason scions don't have the filters, according to toyota is because of the new a/c, they can't "retrofit" the filters, even though the accessories are there. i just put a charcol filter for smells, and at least it traps some outside pollen and crap.
this is what i put in mine and it was worth every penny

I just called my dealership up..they said they dont carry filters for them, they told me, they made the traay, but to keep down on costs they never made teh filters....Keep down on costs?..I bought mine on a Friday, when I picked it up on Monday, they had slapped a more expensive set of rims on, added the 6disc, w/ tube sub, and some other crap I didnt ask for. ANd they're worried about the cost of a $20 filter..yeesh.

I used a Wix filter. Part number 24900. Check out www.wixfilters.com. You can search for a local dealer. Mine was $18.

I used the posts in the Tech section to make mine....didn't even need any duct tape or anything for it....total time spent? 25 minutes, including the trip to Home Depot. And Materials were only $8.50 or so....and I have enough left over for at least 5 more filters....an easy DIY that is well worth the money and time spent
Many new car models from many manufacturers have a place to put an OPTIONAL cabin air filter. Few of those cars come with one installed, and I don't know of ANY econo-cars that do. Scions are econo-cars.
It's up to the new owner to decide if they want a filter. If they do, they can put it in.
Pretty simple, really.

As for cabin air filters, my wife's $30K LeSabre Limited came with every conceivable bell and whistle, but no cabin air filter. The option consists of the plastic box to hold the filter, for a total of $200 - plus the dealer labor to install the plastic box in the air duct which is against the firewall under the hood.
