Default Can the amber backlight on scion mp3 player be changed?

Rest of the car has green illumination. Any chance of changing some LEDs in the SCION headunit (single CD) to be that early 1990s Toyota green?

Cheery,

yes you can change the color of the bulbs, i don't think you can replace them but you can color them or use the little bulb condoms on them. i did it to my eclipse stock headunit a long time ago. after you get the headunit out there are clips that hold the face of it on.. after you get it off you will see where the bulbs are. you can use the condoms or a magic marker. since you're not going to see the actual bulbs it don't need to be perfect, just so it gives off that glow. on my eclipse i believe some of the bulbs had an amber cover over them, i just colored them red... only thing you can't change is the lcd display color... good thing if you got the 6disc though.

Where can you get some of these bulb condoms? Would they work on the speedometer and gauge cluster as well? I know that you can use a sharpy, but would the covers be a tighter way of doing things?

goto a pepboys or any place that sells APC crap, yea crap... but it works... they make bulb condoms in many colors. never seen em that small for the bulbs you guys would be wanting to work with. search online for it or on ebay... you're bound to find some small ones somewhere. the thing with the markers is that it will burn off eventually and faintly show the original amber color. when i was using red, it just turned orangish red... so it wasn't too big of a problem, but with green... hmm... that'd look awfully weird after a while. you could also try radio shack (they MIGHT have it).

I think they are LEDs... Not the regular 5mm or 3mm LEDs. I think they are those PCB type (they look like a rectangle)... kinda like the LEDs that are in phones...
