Check out the dashboard speakers!
I popped off the grill and took out the factory 2" tweeter to play around with my speakers and see if they would fit. Lo and behold, the magnet on the 5.25s fits into the hole in the plastic and the mid almost sits flush! I played around and I figure I can make the mids aim at almost any angle and still stay pretty flat and stealthy once I put some grill cloth over them. Check it out:

What do you think? With some 6.5s or even 8s in the doors, I'll have a serious front stage

Looks like you can make it work.
Just an opinion thought, I wouldn't.
You will never achevie any kind of imaging in your box with that large of a speaker in your dash.
There is a reason most cars don't come factory with dash "drivers" It is a very hard area to reproduce "clean" big sound. You only wind up hearing that set of speakers.
I speak from experience I tried this in a chevy truck. Worst tiing I ever did. Haven't tried this in the box yet, but I would hate for someone to mess up their dash. Not saying you would.
Bigger isn't always better.

I put in some 4" Pioneer TS-G1040R 2-ways.

The stock grills click right in over them, no interference.
To reduce their 'presence' one needs to keep the level of them down compared to the rest of
the OEM speakers. The 10 watt, 6.8 ohm speakers I put in series with the new dash speakers
are just about right, but if one wants to back them down a bit more, you can try 8.2 ohm...
I firmly attached the resistors to the back of the speakers so they wouldn't rattle around.
Uh, here's a quickie schematic with some notes about using the series resistance so the 4
inchers don't take over the sound stage: http://tijil.org/xB_HU_resistor.gif
I get very nice imaging and a 'fuller' yet 'brighter' sound from the new dashtops. The tweeters
in those little Pioneer 4's are pretty decent.
Gotta make sure nothing in the dash rattles, though, or those new speakers will certainly
make it happen.
I'm not the first to put those 4 inch Pioneer's in the dash, I doubt I will be the last. It's a
natural fit.

I have 5.25's in my dash (EarthQuakes=BIG magnet)
much trimming and denting of AC vents
and mounted from below (take off dash top- its easy!!)
and they are pretty loud but you will have to hack alot away

I'm used to kickpanels so I know what good "imaging" sounds like. I've been listening to the stock system with material I know.
1. On "Feel", the xB setting, Bass +3 and Treble +2, it sounds horribly occuluded at certain frequencies, like you have cotton in your ears or bad grill cloth over the speakers.
2. It has the typical bias, where it all sounds like it's coming from the right side due to your relation to the left midrange. On the bright side, parts of the recording that are heavily faded to the right sound like they're outside the car
I want to play around with the angles of the midranges to get the best imaging (aiming up, towards the center, back towards the domelight, etc.)
Who here has done experiments with this? I might have to get a smaller driver to make it work.
